OK HOLY SHIT I DO NOT REGRET REWATCHING A SILENT VOICE!!! And now the spoiler zone begins: (Ive been writing on this for 20 minutes so this will take a while to read through, if you want to, go for it, but be warned, it's a lot of honest thoughts)
Ok so first I have to fanboy in german:
HOLY SHIT MIT KOPFHÖRERN BALLERT DIESER FILM SO VIEL MEHR ES IST DER ABSOLUT KRANKE WAHNSINN. Ok back to english, so: watching this film on a giant big ass monitor with real good sounding headphones MAKES SUCH A DIFFERENCE, the moments when the x'es fell or when shouko tried to kill herself it's on another level, I watched it on a 12 inch tablet with no headphones whatsover the first time and I wonder how it even got 4 stars then but now I do have some thoughts: (obviously it got 5 stars now)
First: I do not take from this film that, oh wow bullying is bad wowowowwow, no. I already know that, I kinda experienced it myself, what I do take from this piece of art is: People always, and always act on their convictions. No one tries to act bad on porpuse, we all just want to live our lives and sometimes stuff gets in the way we just don't know how to deal with.
Second: I know this sounds crazy but, DO YO KNOW HOW MUCH A CRYING HUG CAN SOLVE? That too, I experienced it myself, I hurt my friend in ways (again I didn't mean to but convictions and stuff and not thinking infront in that situation), we stood there in the stairs of our school and were just... sorry. And we hugged each other, crying and it did wonders and im not saying more because I don't know how much he wants to be public of this but just know: Hug each other, please, just do it, most of the time ask, but if you feel like it and you feel like it's mandatory to solve a point, just hug them, please.
Third: Peer presure, holy shit that shit powerful. Bullying I think comes from two origins, yes just two: 1. You're really evil or smth and are for real out on hurting people, maybe for your own good. And 2. Because you just don't know how to dral with a situation, that's what happened here and it got worse through peer presure, how do I know that? BECAUSE THE JOKES WERE FUCKING HILARIOUS. Ok I know this sounds kinda dumb and like I litterally did not feel the movie but I DID, that's the problem, the jokes are too good and then people jump on, also because they just don't know what to do, maybe also because they don't wanna lose friends or the (social) position they got for themself. But it's not stopping then and there isn't really any you know mAgIc WaY to get out other than.. fleeing, what shouko did, she switched to a different school and it was the right decision. I also switched the school and it was the right decision, if there isn't any other way, flee! Even if others say that you're weak or stuff, sometimes it's just a valid option.
Fourth: The part where they all meetup again and stuff is indeed very important for the movie and the whole story, because it just shows why everyone did what they did! Take Naoka for example, Shouya was her friend, she ain't a good friend if she would have just sit there and let shouko do her thing casually destroying the friendship between the 2, again peer presure. And yes being a bystander in such a situation isn't cool at all and honestly everyone that's just bystanding and not doing anything (BRO YOU HAVE THE EASIEST POSITION, YOU ARE ABLE TO HAVE A SIDELESS OPINION), not even going to anyone and asking for help, you're an asshole, sorry.
And the last one: overall it's a beatiful movie! I do not in any way regret having it watched again because it did all the things clear for me. But yes it's just a bit overrated, so here are some films that REALLY should be rated higher:
/anime/113596/josee-the-tiger-and-the-fish
/anime/99750/i-want-to-eat-your-pancreas
I would highly reccomend checking in on the movies above, absolute drama masterpieces, if you like a silent voice, you will also love them.
And that's it, ive been writing here for 20 minutes now and had a blast just getting my thoughts out into this miracle called "language", man I still wonder how we created it. It's truly magic. Have a great sleep the next time you sleep, take care, don't jump of a balcony just to swap with someone else and bye bye.
