I want to start by saying that this is my first Review, so don't expect any deep analyzation of characters or story elements, I'm not good with that. I'm just trying to capture my thoughts on this Manga for anyone who thinks about reading it. English is also not my native language. All Spoilers are Marked.
I discovered this Manga while browsing on Amazon, after (mis-)reading the description, I was intrigued and decided to order the first Volume.
I was expecting a "How I met your Mother" type story, where our Main Girl explains how she met her Husband.
Now, I just said that I misread the description. Thats because, our protagonist Megumi, is actually divorced. When I found out about that after I read the description again when the Volume arrived, i was slightly disappointed, since my previous expectations were completly wrong.
Non the less, i gave the Manga a chance and holy am I glad I did, for just 4 Volumes and 19 Chapters this Manga delivers on the Emotional side and with a really good message. Alltough Romance is a big part of the story, its not really deep, so dont expect any big cute/wholsome moments.
I dont have much to say about that, other then that it feels really unique and I like it.
The Manga starts a bit slow with Vol. 1, i actually paused it for a week before reading Volume 2. But Volume 2 was when I was hooked. I read the remaining 3 Volumes in one go. The story is really Emotional, I had to try hard not to cry at the last few chapters, but fortunately not in a sad way. Allthough I have to say, it felt a little short at some points, I wish the Author would have made a few chapters more for better development.
Quick rant:
There was one event that I was really pissed off about. Before her daughter Saras birthday, she promised to better herself for her kids. She does try that and goes on to bake the cake she promised Sara, unfortunatly she messes the cake up and goes out to shop for new ingredients. While shopping, her landlord shows up and takes her Money because she hadnt paid rent in 3 Months. So far, that seems pretty realistic. What pissed me off is this. She then shows up to Saras bithday party without a cake, but Instead of explaining what happend, she kinda tries to laugh it off. WTF??
Fortunatly, after a time skip into current time, we have Megumis daughter meeting Masamunes Son by chance and so Megumi meets Masamune again and with him together they found out that his family found together again atlast. And the reason for that was Megumi. So happy ending :)
I was hoping for Megumi and Masamune to start dating atlast, since they were both divorced, sadly that didnt happen in the story, but atleast theyre kids got together :). And who knows, maybe the both of them had their feelings catch fire again after the story.
What I really appreciate is the Message the Author wants to get across: Be who you are. Stop worrying what other think about you.
I cant agree enough with this, I really cant stand when someone tries to "fit in" for whatever reason, because hes ashamed of what he likes or does. And thats exactly what the Author portrais with Megumi.
Thats why I enjyo the character development Megumi goes through in the current time chapters, but again feel like its a little rushed.
I'm not going to analyze much here, but I think all characters are likeable and understandable in their actions.
The only character i felt came really short is Yui. The whole love Triangle the Author sets up, again feels to rushed.
Also I would have wished Megumi and Miko (I hope i remember he name right, I mean the friend of megumi who isnt ashamed of being an Otaku) would have fixed their friendship. They both met again but didnt talk, Miko just gave her a little extra comment on her signing, showing her she remembered her.
All in all I think the story and the Message of the Story is amazing and it was a really enjoyable read. My only real critique is that it felt a little rushed. The Manga could have profited from a little more character and world building. But besides that its really amazing. I give this Manga a 90/100 because I enjoyed it and it almost made me cry. My score is purely subjective, I'm not bothered to give it any objective rating that consists of "writing style" or "character depth" or whatever, as said above I'm not good at evaluating things like that.
Really good Manga, can recommend. Hope they make an Anime adaptation. Thanks for reading!
