# WTF is Black Lagoon
Let me start off by saying that I was inspired to write this review because of a video I watched by a YouTuber called No Bones.
Anyway, what in the actual fuck is Black Lagoon? Well, that’s a good question! We start off our story with some random douche called Rokuro who is on a business trip to some godforsaken country. While sailing to his destination a group of pirates (no, not the arrrr ones, modern-day ones) climb on board and rob all passengers blind. Rokuro is taken as a hostage and is forced to sail back to some nasty-ass city somewhere in South-East Asia. (disclaimer, South-East Asia is fucking awesome so don’t @ me. However you can’t deny there are some dingy cities there where God ain’t looking) After getting there his captors turn out to not be your typical kidnappers and actually seem to adopt Rokuro into their group somewhat. When it’s time to cash in it turns out Rokuro is abandoned by the company that is supposed to buy his freedom. Disappointed in not just the company he works for, but in his entire life, Rokuro, now dubbed Rock, decides to join his former captors and becomes a pirate, taking on odd jobs while living the life of a free man.
Sounds pretty good right?

Why Black Lagoon is SPECIAL
Well, for one, Black Lagoon is an anime centered around adults. This might not sound very special, but the idea that we follow adults in an adult setting doing adult things is rather refreshing when the anime medium is mainly centered around high school kids. If you’re a high school kid then you’ve probably never given it a second thought, but as an adult it’s refreshing to see something like this! In No Bones’ video he also talks about a scene where Rock wakes up a half-naked Revy and we don’t see this over the top bullshit reaction where Rock goes something like “I’m a boy and seeing a naked girl makes my peepee hard”. Yes, as a young boy the mere idea of a woman might give you an erection, but as an adult it’s kind of hard to relate to that shit anymore. Yes, it’s a woman, calm the fuck down. Turns out she’s a person too and not just a walking vagina. Who knew?!
Furthermore, Black Lagoon is badass. The idea that you’re absolutely abandoned by everyone and you just say: fuck it, and start a new life in some godforsaken place. Now if that isn’t badass, I don’t know what is. And it ain’t just Rock that makes this anime badass, what about Revy?! That girl might be absolutely insane, but if it wasn’t for her this anime wouldn’t be half as good.

Black Lagoon will get you canceled
If there is one thing I 100% agree with in No Bones’ video it’s the idea that the Black Lagoon Anime could NOT be released today. That shit would be canceled within seconds!!! Racist jokes, the usage of alcohol and drugs, sexist remarks and other shit that will get anyone’s panties in a twist nowadays. Black Lagoon portrays certain aspects of adult life that many want to be stashed away and forgotten about. Now I ain’t about to get political, because I honest to God couldn’t care less about what you believe in, but I for one love how this anime portrays the relationship between men and women and how most folks treat racial differences. Why? Because it portrays reality. The relationship between men and women is skewed, racial differences aren’t celebrated and the lives of many are fucked. These are facts and Black Lagoon has the balls to portray all of it. It’s not saying that these things are good (or bad for that matter), it just portrays real life and I fucking love it!

Conclusion
Alright folks, that’s about it I reckon. Black Lagoon is one of my absolute favorite Anime of all time and I sincerely hope you’re going to watch it too. I’m not sure if this shit is on Netflix, Crunchyroll or any of those other terrible streaming platforms that folks cream their pants over nowadays because they’re soooo good for the anime industry (they’re not).
Enjoy the rest of your day and don't forget to watch Black Lagoon!
