My Review of "'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess"!
Watching this anime was complete "torture".
Story
The story follows a captured princess by the name of Hime. She is kept as a prisoner in the Hellhorde territory, which is at war with her side, the Imperial Army. The Hellhorde want as many secrets spilled from her, so they choose to "torture" her through many methods. By torture, they mean tempting her with delicious food and other innocent pleasures in exchange for information.
Visuals
You have no idea how hungry I was watching this anime. The temptation to not eat anything while watching this anime was "torture". The food just looks so delicious and I JUST WANT A PIECE AHHHHHHHH- Ahem. Apart from the food, the visuals were still good, especially the expressions of the characters. The food and the expressions were definitely the highlights in terms of visuals.
Characters
Hime is a young, childish princess. Although Hime initially seems determined, she's very susceptible to tasty food as seen throughout the episodes. Luckily, she's not the only prisoner in her cell as she's accompanied by her talking sword, Excalibur. Excalibur is not necessarily the best at convincing Hime to evade the food traps presented, but he still chooses to support her even with her weaknesses. Their torturer, coincidentally named Tortura Torture, tempts Hime with delicious food to get as much information as she can from her. When it's not Tortura Torture torturing the tortured Hime (damn that's a mouthful to say), it's the red-haired Youki and purple-haired Inki who do the job. Instead of torturing with food, they choose to torture her through video games. There are a few other torturers with different methods, but they all have a friendly side to themselves.
The Good
The timing of the comedic punchlines in this anime are close to perfection. The fact that it's done with a character like Hime makes each scene funnier than if it was done with a different person. Speaking of Hime, the way the show chooses to present her is just perfect. All the references in the show contribute to her personality and creates this entertaining and hilarious character to follow. The goofy design of the outro even compliments the show, giving more of a comedic vibe than a serious one. They really lean towards the silliness of the story, and I love it.
format(webp))The Bad
I will say that there's a certain complaint that a few other reviewers mentioned about this anime that I found to agree with: the episodes do get a bit repetitive. Hime gets persuaded to confess by a certain temptation and the cycle repeats over and over again. Now, I wouldn't be against this if there was some change to Hime's behaviors, but she doesn't change throughout the episodes where she's tempted to confess. I wish there were at least a few days where she actually fights back against the torture and doesn't confess. At least each episode isn't completely repetitive. They did change the tortured victim a bit, which I did enjoy for what it's worth.
The Downright Ugly
Ugly!? How dare you think something ugly would be in an anime like this?! Of course there's nothing downright ugly!
Is It Worth The Watch?
If you're looking for a show that doesn't take itself seriously, this is a good anime for you. Even if you're not looking for that type of anime, I think that this anime offers entertainment for you that not a lot of anime can provide. As long as you're fine with its bits of repetitiveness, you'll probably end up enjoying this anime. It's worth the watch to me. Now, I need to eat something. This show has "tortured" me for long enough.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. ^^
