My Review of "'An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride"!
Could an anime between a sorcerer and an elfin slave be that wholesome?
Story
This anime follows two characters: a sorcerer by the name of Zagan (yes, it sounds like a deez nuts joke) and an elfin slave named Nephelia. After spending a million currency on Nephelia, Zagan wants to date her. The problem is that Zagan sucks at communicating with women he likes, so he's socially awkward when he tries to interact with Nephelia. While trying to improve his relationship with Nephelia, Zagan ends up getting into dangerous situations due to his reputation and backstory as a sorcerer.
Visuals
A few of the visuals are wonky. When they mix the 3D and 2D animation style in the first few episodes, it really doesn't look that good. However, the regular 2d style looks fine to me.
Characters
Zagan is a rich sorcerer whose actions are persuaded by the power of love. Although smart and diligent, Zagan isn't the best at talking with women, especially with women he loves. Whenever he does, Zagan overthinks his words, ending up saying something that doesn't help his goal. This becomes his conflict with Nephelia, who is a timid elfin slave bought by Zagan. She's caring and merciful, carying a tough backstory that resonates with Zagan.
The Good
I like the little manga panel they add at the end of each episode. It's a nice, small touch onto the show that gives an extra scene that wasn't in the anime adaptation. I think that this show was well-balanced in their genres. It's got an equal amount of romance, action, and comedy throughout the anime, creating a mix of entertaining moments. I love the wholesomeness of this anime. I'm a sucker for it and I'm glad they went for that route instead of the small bits of fanservice they would throw in every now and then.
format(webp))The Bad
I don't think that there's a pretty clear problem with this anime, but I can't rate this any higher based on my enjoyment factor. I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy it, but the anime that I rate higher than this were more enjoyable to me. I don't know how they could improve on this show. I think this show is as best as it can be.
The Downright Ugly
I don't think there was anything downright ugly. It's a good show.
Is It Worth The Watch?
If you're looking for a wholesome anime with a bit of action and comedy, this is a perfect choice for you. I think that this show is worth the watch. It blends plenty of positive features into a well-made and well-executed story. However, don't expect the best thing ever as although it achieves its full potential, its full potential isn't enough to make it in a "Top 20 Anime" list.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. ^^
