My Review of "Metallic Rouge"!
What is that melody?!
Story
In a universe where humans live alongside androids called Neans and travel between planets are accessible, a dangerous group called the Immortal Nine plan to revolt against the society that's been built. A Nean by the name of Rouge Redstar makes it her mission to prevent this from happening and to find out the cause of this situation alongside her partner, Naomi Orthmann.
Visuals
Since this show was made by studio bones, the visuals of this anime are certainly one of the biggest highlights of this show. They're well detailed and absolutely clean.
Characters
The protagonist, Rouge Redstar, is quite the character. Having a complicated past as a Nean, Rouge targets villainous Neans and tries to strip them of their powerful abilities to make sure they don't cause any chaos. Her partner Naomi Orthmann is also a complex character, being the partner and overseer of Rouge, making sure that she doesn't do anything too dangerous that could lead to her death.
format(webp))The Good
The OST and the OP are so damn good! They really put their effort on the music and it ended up making the watching experience more enjoyable. As I previously mentioned, the visuals of the show are a huge highlight, carrying the anime quite greatly. Whether it's the action scenes or the facial expressions, studio bones put a lot of effort into polishing this show's design.
format(webp))The Bad
I didn't really feel much interest in the story. I don't think that this anime takes enough time to let us, the viewers, gain interest in the plot from the start due to the lack of background provided and the extensive amount of scenes that probably would've been better if the right context was provided. By the time the context was provided, it was already too late and too irrelevant to what's currently happening. It really felt chaotic, and not in a good way. I understand that it's an important piece of the lore, but I hate that they keep repeating the same melody over and over again like 3+ times each episode since it was brought up. What makes it worse is that it's almost always the same part of the song and never a different section, imitating the sound of a broken record.
The Downright Ugly
If you try to make something complex with deep lore, at least let the audience breathe for a second to comprehend the new information without teasing or introducing more complicated points of the story. I don't think that the pacing is the necessary problem, but too much information is being thrown at me in each episode that I cannot understand each part of the lore, sabotaging the world building that this show was seeking. Sometimes, too much lore can be too much information.
Is It Worth The Watch?
Nope. Although the visuals are amazing since it's from bones and the music is a banger, the story and the overall execution of the anime is just lacking in multiple different aspects. Knowing that this is supposed to be for bones' 25th anniversary makes this way more disappointing. This studio has way better projects than this.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. ^^
