My Review of "WONDER EGG PRIORITY"!
format(webp))
I can't put down the egg, I can't put down the egg~
Story
This story follows 4 different characters. These characters collect eggs that spawn victims who've ended their own lives due to their trauma. The main characters have to defeat the source of their trauma, often in the form of a human being. These all take place within a dream-like state, so although they do get hurt, they are in a fictional environment. Throughout the anime, these characters continue to collect eggs and help victims as they continue to also fight their own trauma and personal struggles.
Visuals
The visuals are good. They're at their best in the action scenes, where you can see the effort put into each frame. I should probably stop including this category. I can't find too much to yap about when it comes to visuals.
Characters
Ai Ooto is a friendly and outgoing person. Although she keeps herself out of her school, she's pretty talkative when it comes to the other main characters. Neiru Aonuma, on the other hand, is at first a cold and serious girl. However, she does open up a bit more after meeting Ai Ooto. Rika Kawai is a much more extroverted star in comparison to the others. She's very energetic and definitely more hyper than the others. Finally, Momoe Sawaki is a bit of an emotional person. Often mistaken for a guy due to her appearance, Momoe is quite the kind girl, still showing respect for her friends.
The Good
Each aspect of the anime is good on its own. The action scenes were pretty enjoyable although not standing out that much in terms of the art style. The concept with the eggs and having to eliminate trauma is an interesting idea that I haven't seen before, which is a nice change to the plenty of anime that usually have very similar themes. The whole thing going on with each MC's struggle is also a nice addition to the plot, giving a sense of purpose and justifiable reasoning that made me invested into how the story would turn out. Speaking of MCs, each of them have unique personalities and struggles, which helps them stand out from each other. It made me feel like I wasn't watching 4 of the same people in different scenarios.
The Bad
Why is the OP feel like an ED and the ED feel like an OP? They should be switched. I understand that they were aiming for a comfy feel, but swapping them would benefit the show just a bit by giving more excitement with an upbeat song rather than a slow paced track. The whiplash of having the ED being so joyful is crazy after seeing a confusing or sad ending of an episode. I'm gonna be specific on this one, but the 4th episode was a bit awkward for me. It's like I'm watching both a wholesome battle and a disgusting scene take place at the same time and I don't know how to feel. It's also a weird way to introduce the last MC of the story. One thing that I really hate is the lackluster ending. We got left with a bunch of questions with little to no answers. Since there's a very small chance that there will be a season 2, I highly doubt that those questions will be answered anytime in the foreseeable future.
The Downright Ugly
Well, it's time to talk about the title of my review summary. There are a few interesting ideas that this anime possesses, but they would be better if they were in their own separate shows. By combining concepts that don't really fit the same genre or vibe as the others, the show gives off an awkward impression that leaves me confused on how to feel. At one moment, I'm into this action packed scene and a few seconds later, I'm trying to adjust to a more friendly conversation that's supposed to be a bit heartfelt and important at the same time. Sometimes, it just doesn't work when you put all your interesting eggs into one basket, and this anime is proof of that.
Is It Worth The Watch?
I don't think it's worth the watch. I think this show would've been way better if they just picked one of the aspects of the story and split the others into separate shows. Mixing them all together resulted in a somewhat messy anime that just ends up very inconsistent.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. ^^
