My Review of "Afro Samurai"!

Samuel L. Jackson's in an anime!?Story
Ever since he was a child, Afro Samurai went through plenty of rough times. He's been harmed on multiple separate occasions as well as witnessed the deaths of his respectable friends. After watching the #1 samurai brutally die to the #2 samurai, Afro Samurai planned to avenge the previous top samurai. Now, as the #2 samurai, Afro Samurai is closer than he ever could be to fighting the #1 samurai. All he has to do is avoid death, kill those that get in his way, and make his way to where the #1 samurai resides.
Visuals
For a 2000s anime, this visuals are pretty good. The scenes are detailed and the action is very clean.
format(webp))Characters
Afro Samurai is a dedicated warrior with the intention to get revenge. He's very serious about his work, rarely making any jokes or showing any expression that isn't anger or frustration. His partner, Ninja Ninja, is the complete opposite of him. He barely gets involved in Afro Samurai's fights, even if he's on the losing side of things. He's more so like a voice in Afro's head that shows a less serious side of him.
The Good
Samuel L. Jackson is such a versatile actor. Even in voice acting, he finds a way to stand out and make the show way more enjoyable than if it was a different actor voicing his character. One way that he does this is through his comedy as Ninja Ninja. While being very serious as Afro Samurai, the somewhat goofiness of Ninja adds a bit of character into what is a serious anime. The OST of this anime is an absolute banger, incorporating elements of hip-hop to make your head bop. I love how unique this show feels. It didn't feel like any other anime that I've watched so far, standing out from other action-based anime.
The Bad
One thing that I found a bit confusing was the inconsistencies with technology and time. Like how do they have flip phones when there's no internet to be found? How the hell are bazookas being used in a time with samurais? I'm no historical nerd, but I'm pretty sure these things aren't supposed to come together at the same time. One thing that I think they should've done was extend this anime to a few more episodes. I think that if they had a few more episodes, the anime could've been more polished, having more time for action while not cutting out any of the lore they provide throughout the episode.
The Downright Ugly
I didn't find anything downright ugly in this anime.
Is It Worth The Watch?
This is anime is worth the watch. It's a unique one that feels like a mix of Japanese and American cartoons, creating an anime that's clearly different from any other.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. ^^
