this honestly lives up to the hype, i saw a clip of the first episode on tiktok and then just instantly fell inlove with the show. it was my comfort show i 110% recommend this anime to anybody no matter what genre you like c: i will never ever stop talking abt this show. the mix of action, comedy, and family moments is just too good.
the story follows loid forger, a top-tier spy who gets a mission that forces him to make a fake family. he ends up adopting a little girl named anya and “marrying” a woman named yor. but here’s the catch—anya is a telepath, and yor is an assassin. none of them know each other’s secrets (except anya), and this leads to some of the funniest and most intense moments in the show.
loid is just too cool. he’s always calm, always thinking ahead, and never lets his emotions get in the way. like, no matter what situation he’s in, he just handles it so smoothly. even when things go south, he stays focused and somehow finds a way to turn things around. but at the same time, you can tell he actually cares about anya and yor, even if he tries to convince himself it’s just for the mission.
anya is honestly the heart of the show. she’s so funny, especially with her expressions. the way she reacts to stuff because she can read minds is hilarious. like, when she hears yor thinking about killing or loid planning missions, her face just goes full panic mode. but she’s also super wholesome. she just wants to make loid proud and have a happy family, even if she’s not the best at school or elegant like he wants.
yor is kind of a mystery at first, but man, she is wild. she looks so sweet and clumsy, but then she just switches into assassin mode and it’s crazy. some of the fights she’s in are brutal, and you can tell she’s one of the strongest characters in the show. but outside of that, she’s super awkward and bad at basic stuff like cooking, which makes her really lovable.
the side characters are great too. damian, anya’s classmate, is hilarious with how he tries to act tough but totally has a crush on her. bond, the family’s big fluffy dog, is also an awesome addition. he can see the future, which makes things even more chaotic.
the animation is amazing, especially in the action scenes. loid and yor’s fight sequences are so clean, and even the small moments, like anya’s exaggerated reactions, are animated perfectly. the comedy timing is spot on, too. everything just flows so well.
one thing that really stands out is how the show balances everything. one episode can have intense spy action, another can have crazy comedy, and another can have a wholesome family moment. and it never feels out of place. like, you’re just as invested in loid’s spy missions as you are in anya trying to impress her classmates.
the music also fits so well. the opening and ending songs are super catchy, and the background music during action scenes really adds to the tension. even the more lighthearted tracks during the funny or cute moments just work.
overall, spy x family is just perfect. it’s got action, comedy, and heart all in one. the characters are amazing, the story is fun, and it never gets boring. loid is such a cool and chill character, and seeing him slowly become more attached to his “fake” family is so satisfying. anya is pure gold, and yor is a total badass. if you haven’t watched it yet, you’re seriously missing out. this is easily one of the best anime in recent years.
