The summary is right, I used that exact quote from Violet Evergarden to apply for a school (and got accepted btw, so congrats me, I guess!)
I will just get comfortable with not being able to get out all of my thought in text form because that would be really difficult to pull of but here you will find some of the most important stuff for me.
Spoilers ahead, Violet Evergarden is a beatiful anime, go fricn watch it if you haven't!
I will not talk about the 2 movies here btw.
So, I do think that the character arc of character with no emotions or robot like or something to someone who learned to love, to feel and to enjoy life is quite common but I love how they done it here. They specially chose the time after war. The time where you lose loved ones, the time of suffer and pain but also the time for new experiences, for a new world to craft, for new chances and restarts. I think there's no better time to be chosen for this anime. Violet is a really beatiful character on her own. She starts of to be just randomly found and be viewed as a weapon just for the Major to see her differently. I actually love the willpower that the major puts into - can you say that? - loving Violet? It makes their interactions and losses just that more reedeming and full of suffer and pain when they lose each other.
Let’s go a bit more indepth into the arc itself. Violet gets picked up by some random soldiers, the major gets confronted with her, he kinda already falls in love, the troupe goes to infiltrate the enemys base and the major “dies”, well he's gone (I said I’m not talking bout the movie), and these words, in that moment “I love you violet”, they hit so goddamn hard, because now violet goes on this journey, this beatiful journey to find out: What is Love? A journey that probably looks different for everyone, every single one of fictional characters and real people.
The episodes themself are not strictly bound together, rather they send Violet on side quests, those supporting her main goal. She meets many different and interesting people. Writes Love letters, birthday letters for a child who lost her mother in early age, she lives through other peoples Lives, experiences, their sufferings and happiness. This I would say is a stylistic choice too, this way, she gets to know human emotions better thus supporting the main objective.
Many things are resolved in the movie, just not writing about it here.
Violet Evergarden is an anime that will keep it's special place in my heart for some time, some long time probably.
Have a great… ok what do I put here, yk, next time you watch something really emotional, have a great cry, it just deepens your experience!
Bye!
