This will be a review for both Season 2 and Bridon Arc because they are complements and I don't regard Bridon Arc as the proper Season 3, but an interlude for the eventual Season 3.
Link Click could have easily missed the mark after season 1’s brilliant cliffhanger, yet that’s not the case. The animation again is brilliant; I believe it’s even better, which is a high bar. The action choreography is simply immaculate the smoothness and the weight of the characters are very much felt. Even beyond the bombastically well-choreographed action, the subtle animation is depicted so well here. I would say the same for the music, it’s captivating every time (less with Bridon Arc). The end of episode outro music just gets you every single time, and even variations of the old music of season 1 are expertly handled.
The structure is very different from Season 1, it’s more one long narrative rather than the interconnected anthology style that is Season 1. It makes sense why, after Season 1, it was done, but because of that, the pacing is a little less deliberate. We don’t get those multiple cases where you see flashbacks of certain characters’ lives. That said, I really liked how it was handled here and how it carries on the themes of Season 1, which are: memory, conscientiousness, guilt, hope, the inevitability of certain fates, and exploring the butterfly effect. One of the key subject matters that distinguishes this season is the handling of domestic violence. I thought it was handled well for what is a delicate subject.
In terms of the antagonist, this is where Season 2 is weaker. Because it’s one long narrative, the antagonist, I felt, wasn’t as compelling. The presentation of the antagonist is fantastic, especially a certain flashback, just lacking certain depth to make them more memorable. I don’t want to go too deep into it, but I will say the main duo shines once again, their dynamic is fantastic, and their internal struggles coping with the circumstances around them bring about a great ending. Now I segway to Bridon Arc.
Bridon Arc isn’t Season 3, there’s a good reason why it’s not called that. It’s very much an interlude, a sequel prequel to answer certain mysteries yet ask a lot of questions. Which both together justify an eventual Season 3 with the new characters they introduced. Bridon Arc was great, it was only 6 episodes (though the first episode is 65 mins) and very much deals with the actions Guang Lu has made. I can’t go into it too much, but I very much enjoyed the quest Xiaoshi Cheng had to find his parents and new bonds he creates along the way.
In Conclusion, Click Link Season 2 and the Bridon Arc are great additions to the series. While I don’t think they are as strong as Season 1, they are still excellent TV and should be watched by fans of Season 1. I’m quite excited for the possibilities of the future of the series.
