Okay, let’s talk about the title. If you’re like me, you probably saw the name and the tags and thought you knew exactly what this was going to be. But I’m telling you, give it a chance because I was totally blindsided by how emotional it gets. The show looks at what it’s like to be a fan, the way we get lost in our hobbies, and how we figure out who we are in a world where everyone has a specific obsession. It is not just a weird premise. It actually blends humor and romance with some really deep moments about being yourself.
The story follows Masamune, who is a dedicated member of his school’s manga club, and Lilysa, a student who is obsessed with cosplay. Her whole dream is to bring her favorite 2D character named Liliel into the real world. At first, Masamune is kind of against the whole idea, but he gets pulled in as her photographer. Even though it feels like a standard romcom at times, it really goes into the characters’ heads. Lilysa uses cosplay to show a side of herself she’s too scared to show in her daily life, while Masamune starts dealing with his own issues around self-worth.
Another thing that really stood out to me was the rest of the cast. It is not just about the main duo. You get to see a whole group of people who are just as passionate about their hobbies as Lilysa is. Seeing them support each other and build a community around their interests was super wholesome to watch. It captures that feeling of finally finding your tribe and realizing you do not have to hide what you love. It adds a layer of warmth to the show that I did not expect, and it makes the world feel much more lived in.
I went into this with zero expectations, thinking it was just going to be another generic show. But even with a slow start, it delivers such a heartfelt story about creativity and shared passions. All 24 episodes are worth it because they really take the time to build the characters and explain why they do what they do.
The production is a total chef’s kiss. Everything from the music to the animation is great, but the voice acting is what really got me. You can hear the raw emotion in their voices when they scream or cry. There were so many scenes where I felt like I was going through the same things as the characters, which made it feel so personal. I’m also really happy they stayed faithful to the manga without cutting out the good stuff. I truly loved this series and I’m so hyped that Season 2 is officially happening.
Here are some of my favorite moments from the show that I made into a photo collage!
