In the past- where the setting of the story is concerned- many people were ignorant of the truth. There was only one belief considered right, which were the teachings of the Church and the Holy Scriptures. One of which is primarily believing in geocentrism, the "true model" of the universe.
Where curiosity is concerned, it is condemned by the Church. They see it as a sin that corrupts people away from God and sets an entrance to hell. As a result, the Church became strict when it comes to heretics and those that go against God.
Fate, the destination of all mankind, is where the life of characters who wish to move the world shall encounter questions, doubts, suffering, sacrifice, and betrayal, all of which is necessary to their convictions.
God causes all things to work together for good.
We live in a world full of constant suffering, where we people often point out to question whose at fault: God or Humanity?
People are created so similarly different, that all of us are able to hold vast beliefs, convictions, and characteristics. It is due that we people often find ourselves divided, and fail to see what causes things to happen in behalf.
God created all things in a single thread. There is good and evil, brave and cowards, strong and weak, intelligent and stupid. Oftentimes, those are which that cause people to give judgement that concludes to right and wrong.
However, each humans are destined by fate to produce meaning, which the story describes as something like: "all of us have our own purpose, it's up to us and God's will whether we fulfill it or not." Since all humans are different, God-given, be it may talent, skill, wisdom, or privilege, it makes us league with or against each other; for self, for others, for the heavens and the Earth, or for God.
A quote from Rafal states, "We are simply making comrades in the same era"
To put it simply, humanity is responsible for the world's suffering but humanity often find themselves blaming God for their undoings. While most of us might argue about it, all threads, whether made by good or evil, will always be caused to work together for the truth.
What do you think is necessary to change the world? Truth.
ORB makes it very specific that truth is necessary to change the world. Why?
In a world full of concepts, along with the existence of good and evil, God himself showed his greatness by creating all things creatively, where human minds cannot easily comprehend such vast knowledge, and pertain to their questions concerning the divine.
For example, the story's scope aspects are: Geocentrism, Heliocentrism, Pantheism, and probably Atheism.
Since humans are responsible for the world's suffering, "in everything new, the root of evil comes first". Which is why the Church condemns anyone who goes against the belief of Geocentrism, which the scholars and great philosophers believe as the "true model of the universe", but we also see several characters who fight for the sake of Heliocentrism, which the "heretics" believe otherwise.
This is where heretics try to prove their point by scavenging against the authority through passing the torch to people who have the vision, where they place hope that one day their "truth" may be unveiled. (because people cannot truly identify the truth immediately unless proven.)
From Hubert to Rafal to Oczy and Badeni to Jolenta to Schmitz, they all try to prove their ideas as representation of truth, which they try to overthrow the authority.
Meanwhile, Draka and Albert have their different beliefs influenced by others, which can be indefinitely different in comparison to those above.
Lesson being, because evil is so prevalent, lies often veil the truth, which is abused where truth repeats its course. However, God allows things to happen because it is what brings us to be open-eyed, where even though hope is infinitesimally low, as long as people have faith in their convictions, it will lead to a better universe where the truth may be unveiled, or if not, atleast the world will be open to ideas to disseminate and learn from their mistakes.
Truly, it is our way of questioning things, believing in things, having faith in the unseen, and the things that we hold are what lead us to the truth. To move the world, sacrifice is inevitable, but even if those convictions are right or wrong, it doesn't mean they're meaningless. Instead, it opens the way for more creativity, which welcomes more aspects apprehended.
Do you know why I do this job? It is for the sake of my daughter and peace.
Nowak, a character in the series,
Realistically, we people tend to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of family, others, or God. It is an obligation we have to do because we love. However, sometimes,
Lesson being, we people must always rethink our assumptions before doing.
Also, doing obligations for the sake of others is never a bad thing, but,
(Personal Opinion)
Lastly, if one were to truly love his daughter, then one will also do things similar to Nowak. I just think that him keeping his job from her is an irresponsible thing coming from Nowak because while it is true that Jolenta is young, and that she must be preserved from the truth of his job, but it felt like lying. One day, if there were an alternate ORB where Jolenta and Nowak's lives were, Nowak will face the consequence of hiding the truth from his daughter, which Jolenta, if we're talking realistically, might turn to hate him. Despite all these, Nowak is still a good father who will sacrifice everything for the sake of his daughter, if that's not love, I don't know what is.
The world is beautiful. God shows his greatness through the Heavens and the Earth. We are born for a reason, even if life may feel meaningless or lacking in ways, but fate will direct all to lifetime that apprehends the correct timing which measures the weight of responsibility to attain the truth. Overall, ORB: On the Movements of the Earth, isn't just a literary piece, but a metaphor that we people can move the Earth to find the truth via the things that God has created, our own differences, and the things which all are rooted from. As the times are changing, we too are changing the world.
In the end of the day, it is love that sets us and everything free.
Truly, this anime is superbly done. But why 98/100? This is a personal opinion but the last few episodes felt irrelevant in comparison to most episodes, while there are certainly quotes that are directed to its relevance, to me, it just doesn't fit. I think things would've ended better with Draka, along with a cameo of the future of the results of the actions of the people of their convictions that lead to a better universe. Even if it was another problem similar to the Church, and then the ending showed another people who will try to challenge the authority (or another unique problem) for the sake of the universe. That's what I felt for the ending.
But really, that doesn't matter. What matters is all the actions of the characters were fully reflected, whether good or bad, it was all for the sake of the truth. Are you willing to move the Earth?
