Summary:
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a story about the great mage Frieren, following her life after she and her party have defeated the Demon King. We journey with her through the land after most of her former comrades have passed away from old age. Frieren sets out to fulfill their last wishes and, in doing so, begins a new adventure of her own.
What makes this journey truly special is how it explores themes of loss, time, and memory. As an elf who lives for centuries, Frieren struggles to understand the fleeting nature of human life — and the emotional weight of bonds she didn’t fully grasp until her friends were gone. The story beautifully reflects on grief and how people live on through the memories and choices we carry with us.
What I personally like:
I love the slow and casual pacing of the series — it's a refreshing change from most of today’s fast-paced anime. It feels peaceful and reflective to follow Frieren and her new party as they travel across the land, encountering a variety of situations and characters.
The characters are well-written and very likable. I can’t wait to see Frieren, Fern, Stark, and many of the side characters return in the second season.
The author of the show uses a great gimmick, using German words for character, location and animal names.
As a German, this is especially funny, because those words act as a quick summary or great indicator of what's to come.
Flaws:
I had a great experience with the show and personally can't think of any flaws to mention.
A few people will probably don't like how demons are portrayed in the series, as in the Online Threads I've already seen.
You should go watch the show and make your own opinion about that topic.
Animation & Sound
The animation is stunning, with breathtaking backgrounds and expressive character designs that elevate each scene (and make them wallpaper-worthy).
The use of color and quiet moments really helps set the tone.
The soundtrack complements the story perfectly — it's subtle and emotional, adding depth without overwhelming the scenes.
Even outside the series, I listen to them sometimes to have something nice in the background.
Who should watch the show?
Overall, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a gem that stands out in today’s anime landscape. It’s thoughtful, emotional, and full of heart. Whether you’re here for character growth, philosophical reflections, or just a cozy fantasy journey, this anime is well worth your time.
This show is perfect for fans of the Dungeons & Dragons community, lovers of fantasy-medieval-themed stories, or anyone simply looking for something slower-paced and different.
If you’re thinking about starting with anime, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a perfect entry point.
