My Review of "The Demon Girl Next Door"!

THE TIME HATH COME!Story
Yuuko Yoshida was once a normal high school girl. However, after an encounter in her dream with a demonic ancestor, Yuuko grows horns and gains the power of a demon. After being informed of the rivalry between demons and magic girls, Yuuko tries to fight as a demon by challenging her town’s magical girl, Momo Chiyoda. However, her lack of strength and experience ends up making herself a weak opponent, causing Momo to not take her seriously despite Yuuko’s initial seriousness.
Characters
Yuuko Yoshida is an airheaded demon girl. Despite how serious she wants to be, she always comes off as an unserious threat. Momo Chiyoda is smarter than Yuuko (the bar is very low on that, trust me) and despite how she’s presented, she claims that she’s one of the weaker magical girls, which makes Yuuko look even weaker. Momo is very friendly towards Yuuko even though they’re supposed to be rivals and even helps her if she’s in a problematic situation.
The Good
I love the light-heartedness of this anime. I’ve been recently watching a lot of serious anime, so watching something like this gave me so much relief and enjoyment. There’s just something about a protagonist that doesn’t start off or suddenly become strong that makes the story a bit more fun. It’s not necessarily “laugh out loud” funny, but it’s like a “yeah that’s silly” funny, so it’s decently humorous. In terms of the actual story, the progression relating towards the relationship between Momo and Yuuko was paced well. Each episode slowly brought both characters closer despite their differences.
The Bad
As with a good amount of unserious comfort anime, this anime doesn’t feel like it does anything too special. However, take this with a grain of salt as I don’t have as much knowledge of the Mahou Shoujo genre as a veteran anime watcher. This complaint doesn’t really harm the anime. I mean, it’s still good for being a comedic anime.
The Downright Ugly
Uhhhh I don’t think there was anything downright ugly with this anime (except Yuuko’s magical skills. Man, she really can’t put up a fight against Momo lol)
format(webp))Is It Worth The Watch?
As one of the first ever Mahou Shoujo anime that I’ve watched, I would say that it’s worth it if you don’t want a serious story. This anime is pretty goofy, but it’s not necessarily the most standout Mahou Shoujo anime out there in my personal opinion. That doesn’t mean that the anime is bad though. The show is enjoyable overall.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^
