I gotta start this review by saying, that I've been reading and loving the original Puniru manga, ever since it got translated all the way back in 2021 and I will mainly talk about it as an adapation of the manga and the things I loved about it.
When they announced the adaptation, I was almost literally counting down the days, until the anime would finally come out.
Altough there was also a bit of fear, since it could have easily become a bad or even mediocre adapatation that's just the manga panels coloured and given some voice acting.
Luckily this wasn't the case at all!

Now this anime is how you do a perfect adaptation of a perfect manga.
It adapts all the scenes from the early chapters, while also doing things like combining chapters or moving them around a bit for better flow or better storytelling, as an adaptation should, instead of just going chapter by chapter. Not only that, there's also a whole bunch of original scenes that weren't present at all in the manga, one of which for example is the opening scene that shows Punirus "birth"

The chosen chapters are also pretty good, as they cover the early chapters and ending just before the beginning of the Gelee arc, which was a pretty call. The story did develop nicely and gave some nice smaller moments, but leaves enough open for season 2 to really start getting into the romance part of the series.
Though the chosen ending point was an original and honestly a pretty hilarious choice.
One of the best things this show added was how it portrayed Puniru transforming into other forms (one of the mangas main-gimmicks being her transforming into a new cute form at least once per chapter). Usually, its only one or two pages long and very short, fitting for the manga.

The Anime changes this...by turning it into a full on a magical girl transformation sequence!
▶ VideoThe animation is colourful and fun and fits the mangas themes perfectly. All the colours in this are strong and just fun to look at. Add to that that there are quite a couple of well animated scenes and it definitely feels like how the manga looks in my head, whenever I am reading it.
And a lot of the time, the animation really makes use of her being a living slime, having her stretch and squish and melt and getting cut...this was the biggest thing I was worried about originally with this show, but thankfully the used her being a slime to their full advantage to have some fun with the animation.

(There's also the summer episode, where the animation quality improves even more)The characters are all also perfectly portrayed and each chosen voice felt like how the character could easily sound. The VAs giving it their all in the more "Over the Top" moments of the show too, adding to the humor and making these moments stick out more when watching it.
Punirus VA especially having to change her voice fitting for each of the forms she takes and doing such a great job at it

Overall, after finishing the show, I can't wait for season 2 and hoping that it will keep the same amazing energy and quality as this season did. This show is such an easy recommend in my opinion, both if you read the manga, but also if you have never read the manga before!
I would say this show is only nothing for you, if you can't really stand Punirus more...forceful nature and moments, as those are happening constantly throughout the show. But if you do not have any problems with it, then once again, this show is definitly an easy recommend for me.
And now I will count the days until season 2 finally comes out.
