My Review of "GAMERS!"

Never in my lifetime would I have ever expected to get jumpscared in an anime by the freaking Universal Studios intro ._.
Story
The story follows Keita Amano, a gaming nerd who’s oblivious to a lot of different things. After rejecting an invitation to his high school gaming club led by popular girl Karen Tendou, he befriends fellow video game enthusiast Tasuku Uehara. Them, alongside another gamer named Chiaki and Tasuku’s girlfriend Aguri, get into a bunch of romantic problems that causes plenty of misconceptions between everyone.
Characters
Karen Tendou is very friendly but just like many of the other characters, she can misunderstand situations very easily. She’s obsessed with the male protagonist, Keita Amano, who’s very knowledgeable on video games. Karen’s classmate, Chiaki, is a bit more reserved about her personal life. Tasuku Uehara tries to be the “Cupid” of the story, setting up hangouts and meetings with certain characters. His girlfriend, Aguri Sakurano, is a bit paranoid about her relationship due to a couple of misunderstandings and hijinks that ensue throughout the anime.
The Good
The interactions between the characters are decently hilarious. There were a few scenes that left me chuckling either because of their stupidity or because of how forced the gaming reference felt. Speaking of gaming references, I appreciated them quite a lot. I knew most of them and considering this anime should be focused on gaming, they were pretty good references. Even though the show feels somewhat generic, the anime does a good job at making the basic story seem a bit unique by integrating video games.
The Bad
Even though there are video games in most of the first few episodes and a couple references scattered across the latter half, I feel like the gaming aspect of the show becomes less important to the story as it focuses on the romance. Going into this anime, I was concerned about how the anime would balance the themes of romance and gaming. Initially, it seemed as if the anime was doing a good job at balancing both sides, but it would lean towards more romantic themes and slowly lessen the impact of the gaming aspect of the anime, and when it tried to lean towards gaming themes, it just felt like filler to the main story. It just sounds easier to write on paper than to execute well.
Spoiler, click to view
Holy Fanservice that last episode was unnecessary and full of useless fanservice. They could've had a better finale but I guess we get the wasteful pervy filler episode to end this anime off.
The Downright Ugly
Despite its lack of balance, I don’t think there’s anything downright ugly.
Is It Worth The Watch?
I’m not sure if this anime is worth watching. The show has fun video game references and a few funny moments, but the story feels very generic with some more emphasis on idiocy playing a major role on how the characters behave. I didn’t think this anime sucked, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch this show.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^
