How to start on this, there's a few fantasy shows out there, especially those based on war. A similar show by concept is actually Madan no Ou to Vanadis (Romanji name), except that one is more fanservice/ecchi based. This show isn't bad when on full analysis, a lot of the concepts are actually quite cool, such as the crests. The problems simply lie upon the characters themselves. You have an anime protagonist, no charisma, a selfless "I won't let anyone die" mentality, and a 'go-with the flow' tactical view. Yet he sees every sort of success despite not having much of a forefront plan. There are characters who show a lot of tactical prowess throughout the series, or just military strength, and he is able to beat them by sheer... being a protagonist.
Now, the protagonist is far from the only problem. The other leaders are tropes too, Alexis is basically your shy 'I don't want any bloodshed' type character, yet is quite obviously meant to be the only character that can stop Marrine, who the show forces you to see her as misguided. It doesn't really let you pick your own side, unlike a normal Western-style show with factions like these. Usually they let you choose who you like. Either way, there's another thing I would like to point out.
Hear the song here? That is pretty much the only song that exists in this anime. Have battle music? Not much of it, gotta have you listen to the noises of battle, but now that they're winning the battle, gotta play this song and blast it so we make sure you hear it! I do want to return to characters and point out how great a character Lassic is, as well as the people who serve him.The show really did have promise, if different plots were not just shoehorned in. The setting was great, different characters were pretty good, and I mentioned the crests... though it seemed to take far too long to actually utilize an interesting aspect of the crests, multiple crests later on how specific unique powers to them, that were severely lacking in the crests earlier on. The magic seemed cool and would have been interesting to see in depth, but plot line messed that up. Plus the battles getting overall worse later on. I think the last thing I can cover is that the ending was massively disappointing. It pushed some ending battles and kind of just... ended them.
