So you like Gundam? Yes? then I think you'll have a good time watching this. HOWEVER, it's not the Gundam you know and love but something birthed from an alternate dimension. This dimension where just enough is the same and the points of connections are just correct enough to make you wonder what could have been.
Was beautiful, I don't think there was a single time I thought this Anime looked bad or ugly, it always looked really good or better. It brought forwards Gundam's historic roots and mixed it with some modern aesthetics, which I'm sure some will complain about, but I had no problems with. The designs of the new Gundam's I'm sure did hit some fans in the wrong way, but too me they weren't an abomination. I can see why people felt they didn't "fit" the setting as they are unlike anything else in any Gundam series thus far, but they were still grounded too me & can appropriate them.
Was fitting, I never felt like anything was out of place or that anything would have necessarily made for a better fit. So on that level I enjoyed that part of this series as well. Gundam to me has always been a series where music was never it's strongest suit, however it was never bad either and to me this series continues that.
I'd say the only area that made me really dock points? was a story. It's certainly not bad, but it just comes across as flat to me. Nothing really stood out and was bold or surprising, it was still fun tho. Everything that happened was something I expected or figured would happen even with my limited knowledge of some of the early Gundam's. I do feel this is a failing of many Gundam's however, so this is why I'd say if you are used to the shallow story and don't mind it? You might still love this.
If you were a fan of the early Gundam's and have a love for alternative histories? This will be YOUR jam, even if the jam wasn't fully cooked it still tastes good. The whole thing is action pact & yet semi flat noted from beginning to end. I don't feel that many high notes or things of note in these 12 episodes, which is a shame.
Too those who like mecha action? You'll like this especially the early episodes which are full of cool action scenes. I think for you it's worth a watch, but expectations should be kept at a medium level as you won't be blown away or at least I wasn't.
So overall? I personally enjoyed my time watching it, but not as much as any other title Gundam title I've consumed thus far. I think they could have done so much more and gone so much farther if they'd have given it more episodes. But in today's climate it seems like most productions studios of all forms aren't looking to make series or seasons beyond 12 Episodes. If this does get a second season? I think it will keep hitting semi flat notes as it fulls in the gaps, which would be enjoyable however not Earth shattering.
