(This is a repost of a review when Special 2 just dropped)
So I finished Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3, (the two eps were separated by months but i still remember) It may be hard to wrap my thoughts into a review because this is fairly fresh but lets go
Extremely powerful final part, its kinda hard to put into words my thoughts for the 2nd so ill just start with the 1st
It was excellent, down to the music choice, animation, pacing that made an hour and a half feel like a normal episode length, it was all just fantastic. The two biggest highlight scenes of it being the freedom scene and Hange's death which were just handled masterfully. Deadass some of the best scenes in the show. THE BLUE BALLING CLIFFHANGER ENDING WAS OUTRAGEOUS THOUGH, LEAVING IT ON THAT FOR THE WHOLE ASS YEAR WAS AGONY
I think the legit only thing I kinda didn't like was how floch gabi and annie were sidelined for this whole episode.
I might come back to this at a later point too, but for now im gonna see how i can put into words this 2nd part
Once again, the score and animation was peak as to be expected, and some character vas gave their fucking A game like my man armin godDAMN i think his performance may've stole the show ong
There's so many scenes I love here. Whether it be Armin and Zeke's talk/Zeke's resolve. All the fight scenes especially the first one with all the different titans, almost every Levi scene but especially the one where he finally sheds a tear and the stuff between eren and armin or eren and mikasa in the visions. I find the eren and armin one especially beautiful because its the closest one you'll ever get to like the ending you expect when first watching this show, them just exploring a beautiful world together like the stuff they see in the book, and my god them saying that they'll see eachother again in hell is really sad but also really beautiful, who'd a thought they could make a phrase thats generally so hateful just bittersweet.
Even if it hurts too like how i felt with light dying in death note, unlike there i felt like this was done perfectly (both in how he died but also stuff like where he was burried and how they always visited him), like there was literally no other way it couldve been written better. And even if it would've been cool to see eren win, lets be real thats just stupid, we'll probably see an alternate with that in shingeki fly series anyway though. Only time will tell.
However despite that, I think the thing thats left me confused and thinking is how the overall ending feels rather strange. Like, it was written really well and it seems a bit hopeful for the future to an extent. But there's also like this tint of just like, arguably one of the most depressing endings ive ever witnessed at the same time. Like, the ending spans through ages at the burial tree and showing all the visits, then shows mikasa literally past away from old age, then shows society slowly build up and become more modern until it all explodes on itself, showing that humanity just fights with eachother through years of advancing all over again almost as if it kinda didnt matter in the end??? Maybe thats not the way to interpret it, but holy fuck it is depressing. Then the punch which brings you all the way back to episode 1 with "To You, 2000 years later" showing a young kid stumbling upon eren's tree now being a gigantic tree. And I dont know if its real or a theory, but people think that its a possibility this is similar to the giant tree ymir stumbled into that caused her to gain the founding titan powers, meaning the cycle would repeat to an even more extreme extent, WHICH IS EVEN MORE DEPRESSING BRUH. I don't know, I'm literally writing this messy as fuck as im just freshly getting my thoughts out. But shit, this has a chance to be one of the saddest endings just ever.
Most confused review I've possibly ever written, but I definitely liked this finale. I just had to spew fresh thoughts, I'll think about this more though.
