First and foremost, this is my first time writing an anime review, so I hope you'll overlook any errors, inconsistencies, or disruptions in the flow.
Through this review, my only goal is to encourage more people give The Future Diary a chance. I've seen a surprisingly large number of people spreading hate about it (which made it hard for me to start the anime myself) and while I won't say it's perfect, i don't think it deserves the hate it gets and this review is my effort to oppose that. Now, let me share my thoughts upon this anime.
The Future Diary is a story about thirteen individuals thrown into a brutal survival game to decide who will become the god of space and time. Each of them has a unique diary having special powers- such as predicting their own or someone else's future, clairvoyance and more. The whole world is the battlefield (though oddly all of them live in Japan- probably the same city) and the last one standing becomes the god. This marks the beginning of an intense game of strength and wits, full of unexpected twist and countless deaths. That's mostly it about the story- now on to the other aspects.
The music usage in the show was well-used and on point which enhances the mood effectively. The animation, though not top-tier, was still good enough and didn't ruin the experience. Talking about the characters: personally, I am not a big fan of the main character, Amano Yukiteru, nor of Gasai Yuno- but i don't hate them either. My opinion of them kept on changing throughout the series. Some other diary holders like, ninth and fourth, stood out more for me. All in all, the characters are decent- some are really good, others not so much but they do their job in driving the story smoothly . What i liked the most about the show is its mystery elements(especially the scenes involving Akise) , action and the wide variety of characters it offers. There were also many heartbreaking moments which kept me invested until the end.
I didn't like the way it ended- though the near end episodes were the best part of the show especially episode 19-24 which made me binge watch them- the ending left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. Also, some of the characters’ decisions appeared illogical or poorly justified. Even with its shortcomings, it was still a worthwhile experience.
Alright, that's it from my side. Now it's up to you to decide whether to watch it or not. I was confused about watching it too, but i hope this review helps you make your choice.
If anyone watches it because of the review, feel free to contact me after finishing it and let me know your thoughts. You can message me even before finishing too :) . Also a piece of advice- do watch it alone as it contains a fair bit of nudity.
