I thought this would be a decent, silly anime to just laugh at and enjoy the ridiculousness of it all, and that's what my review originally said. But oh my goodness, I think this anime is going to drive me insane!
Let me explain. So Ruka is a vampire dude that has a destined partner that has to be a girl. Then there's Strawberry Dumbcake aka Mito who is a girl but she's pretending to be a boy. So Ruka likes Strawberry Dumbcake but he thinks its forbidden because he thinks she's a boy. And she's like, oh I'm not Ruka's destined partner! And so there's this whole ridiculous thing of them being one for each other, but Strawberry Dumbcake not revealing it, leaving Ruka thinking he's falling in love with someone else. This goes on for the majority of the story, and it's very frustrating RIP. Also why did she become a man, what. My brain can't comprehend this anymore. This would be better if it were a BL. Oh and my friend just told me she loses her memory, so bleh to that.
But then, get this, so an impostor is pretending to be Strawberry Dumbcake for Ruka to like and they end up in a dumb situation where impostor and Dumbcake's lives are at risk. And Ruka has to choose his life to save, and he chooses the Impostor and not his long-time friend! Oh my gosh. This almost made me drop it, but I am going to continue through since I'm nearly done. I liked Ruka up until this point because he was stupid, funny and caring, but that got ruined.
Originally I thought Strawberry Dumbcake should just end up with the typical Cold Duke of the North (Ren), but then I found out he was terrible too. So just in general this is a terrible romance boooooo.
The point I'm trying to make is if you're not wanting to watch dumb characters and a pretty bad romance, I wouldn't recommend this. I'm a big fan of vampire romances, my middle school years of loving Twilight did that to my brain. However, what is this romance, it's so frustrating Lol. This could have been good if it just stuck to being silly and a dumb shoujo with all the stereotypes, but then when the male lead who I'm supposed to root for does something like that and he was one of the only parts of the anime I genuinely liked, but now don't, it kinda ruins it.
I glanced at the manga too, it doesn't get much better RIP.
Animation and sound are mediocre. Nothing bad but nothing that really wowed me. However, I do really like the opening and the dancing scene in it, so I do have to mention that.
Sometimes dumb shoujos can be really good, as they're just fun to laugh at and enjoy, and that's the math this was heading down, but then the romance took a turn for the worse RIP. I'd suggest this if you don't mind all this stuff I described going on, but aside from that, this isn't really a quality shoujo romance, or at least that's what I think.
I'm dropping this.
My solution is to put my dog in the anime and have her be the main character instead. Imagine, a big German Shepherd just living her amazing life and biting all the stupid vampires as if they were her chew toys. I think that'd be perfect. Oh and she'd get superpowers because she's awesome.
