Ojou to Banken-kun

.....................................................................................?? ࣪˖ ִ? Summary: Isaku just wants to live a normal life. But as the granddaughter of a yakuza boss, that’s a pretty tall order. For years, it’s been difficult for Isaku to make friends and find love. So, she decides to enroll in a high school far from her hometown in hopes of a fresh start. But her plans take an unexpected turn when a worried member of the yakuza, Keiya, enrolls in the same school to protect her. (Crunchyroll)..................................................................................... ?? ࣪˖ ִ? Keywords:
- Highschool, "friends" to lovers, questionable age gap (paternal figure), turn your brain off to enjoy it, low budget.
?? ࣪˖ ִ? What's wrong? A lot of things. Beware of spoilers!
- The age gap is actually weird since she's a minor and he isn't. Add to that the way he's been presented as a father figure and they've known each other since she was a child while he was a teenager. He disguises himself as a highschooler so it helps with "forgetting" this part but they keep reminding us with frequent flashbacks. It was easier to avoid in the manga, which I also eventually dropped.
Someone said it was "A Victim & Her Guard Dog" and I can't help but think it's really accurate.
- Some scenes are dragged to make the episodes longer, such as two characters looking at each other for a little too long or some frames not moving but it's alright, we'll blame the budget. Oh and let's not forget the low quality of the audiovisuals.
- Keiya's portrayed as "crazy" or a little bit "dumb" when it comes to love and relationships although he's pretty experienced. They try to justify his flirty behaviour with other women by making him sound unaware of the issues at hand. Mind you, he's 26yo and he's a very jealous person. You would think he knows what he's doing. A lot of "really, dude?" moments there.
- Plot holes: She got kidnapped. Twice(?). He was there with her, yet he didn't manage to protect her. Also, one of the guys who kidnapped her ended up coming back at school acting like nothing happened and they were still talking to him. HE ALSO ALMOST RAPED HER? Guys, mafia plot? Isn't the ML supposed to be possessive? Isn't he her body guard? I can't take it seriously but then again it's just basic romance anime stuff.
?? ࣪˖ ִ? What did I like?
- I liked the art style, even with how unstable it was.
- Some moments are very wholesome and cute.
- If you like a possessive ML, you're at the right place.
..................................................................................... ?? ࣪˖ ִ? Conclusion: As long as you turn off your brain and watch it for the "cute vibes", you're good. On a more serious note, they should stop making such weird animes. Should you watch it? Eh. Was it alright? Yeah, I guess. I managed to get through it since I was watching it with a friend.
