Burying the lede, this show is EXACTLY what it says on the tin. There is a woman, and you (the main character) want to see both her panties and her disgusted reaction to this situation. If the title and this premise sounded enticing to you then you can stop reading and go watch! Don't let me...spoil it? Have fun! Live your life! If you're still here though lets get into why I bothered talking about it.
Right now I'm learning Japanese on and off and decided to help with this, I'm going watch as much anime as I can when I have the time without any subtitles/with JP only subtitles. Its a good way to both test your retention of words you learned, but also pick up new words. Because the vocabulary is pretty similar within the same genre, I thought it would be a good Idea to mostly stick within the same genre. Right now that's slice of life/romcoms.
Watching a full episode of a show where you understand less than 20% of what was said can sometimes get exhausting! Moreover, when the stuff you do understand seems good, you get really tempted to go back and look up every single word which reaaaally slows down the process and in a way defeats the purpose. I found myself thinking that I needed to find something close to the same genre that I don't particularly care about, but also maybe something a bit shorter. To that end i found Ecchi short anime. You probably see where this is going.
Ecchi is not my preferred genre or anything, and in non-Ecchi series' I would usually prefer its not there. All that said I like boobs so I don't mind a good ecchi. And I love bad television so I also don't mind a bad Ecchi from time to time either. I watched Getsuyoubi no Tawawa S1, and just ran through a bunch of the recommended shows from it's page. And...here we are.
Every episode starts with a mundane establishing shot of your average every day life of the current episode's nameless Heroine(?). The heroines for (season 1 at least) comprise of a maid, an idol, a nun, a nurse, a shrine maiden, and a classmate. Going forward we will call any given episodes Heroine-Chan or (Insert Job Here)-chan when referring to a specific one.
The episode also goes over how the faceless voiceless MC slots into it. Because the episodes are entirely shot in 1st Person POV, the viewer is clearly meant to be self inserting here. As such going forward we will call the MC You-kun.
All but one of the Heroines (Classmate-chan) seems to have a fairly favorable opinion of You-kun. They seem to be a person who they trust, or respect, or admire. In some cases some of their body language even implies they could potentially have a bit of a crush on you. The conversations are more or less 1 sided with Heroine-chan doing all of the talking. They try to capture the mannerisms and personality of Heroine-chan but frankly outside of maybe Classmate-chan, they're all extremely 1 note and unremarkable. You-kun is in fact talking as well, we just aren't privy to what exactly is being said. You can tell this is what's happening because of the long pauses that Heroine-chan takes to Look directly at the camera while doing nothing, only to go "eh?" and repeat what You-kun supposedly just said back to the viewer. The animation and voice work is around to below average, so it doesn't do much to carry the mediocre dialogue either. Its serviceable but nothing special.
About a minute or 2 into any given episode is when "The Turn"™ happens. "The Turn"™ is the moment we(?) all came here for. You-kun finally works up the courage to sexually harass the woman in front of him by asking her to show him her panties. If you take offense to me calling it sexual harassment, take it up with the show because I think at least half of the Heroine-chans said it. Like they REALLY want to drive home how unwanted this advance is. Like it takes some convincing too. Every single time there is some amount of back and forth. We zoom in on Heroine-chan's face as she jumps from emotion to emotion. Shock, Confusion, Calm as she assumes this was just a joke, quick pit stop to anger, then back to confusion until she finally falls into a Quiet, almost eerie, state of contemplation. "Ah, so this is the kind of man you were all along." She bakes in the disappointment for a while when she finally settles on Disgust. At varying levels of reluctance, but make no mistake it is ALWAYS reluctantly, Heroine-chan lifts her skirt or dress or whatever she's wearing today, berating you all the while, and finally shows her panties. She berates you one last time and we linger on the shot until we hard cut to black and then the ending.
This shit is fascinating to me. I personally am used to Ecchi being all about the body. We are showing off curves and underwear for the sake of arousal and going to ridiculous lengths to do so. I figured this would be more of the same but it is not. For one thing despite the title, You-kun seemingly does not ask Heroine-chan to make a disgusted face or anything like that. The face is just a natural and understandable consequence of the request. Despite this, the faces are CLEARLY the intended draw here. The panty shots themselves are okay. The art is fine and they all had designs that were unique when compared against eachother. Comparatively so much more care was put into exactly how and why these women looked at you like trash. A few of the final lingering shots you can't actually see the panties and are instead fully focused on this woman who probably hates you now.
I found myself thinking man this could have been an email. The entire episode really just needed to be the final face and the panty shot isn't that what these people are here for? But no, they wanted the full experience. The many many You-kuns out there wanted to see a Woman who likes them slowly grow to hate them. They want to see every emotion flash across their face, they want to see panties yes, but its the disgust that really does it for them. To put it simply, You-kun is a Masochist.
Truly fascinating stuff. I personally have nightmares about disappointing the people around me to this extent but I guess there are people out there who get off on it. Takes all kinds I guess! Well if you're into this specific scenario. You'll probably love this. Its probably safe to say you aren't going to get this experience in an anime literally anywhere else. If this doesn't appeal to you, this show has nothing going for it. The character designs are derivative, the plot is non existent, the conversations are boring, the animation is minimal at its best, there is not a single interesting camera angle in the entire runtime and the sound track is so unmemorable that I actually had to go back and check to see if they had more than one song (It did). I think there were only 2 things that this anime did well. First was just the disgusted faces. They were pretty decently expressive sometimes in subtle ways. Unironically took a few screenshots for my expressions art reference folder. The second was the directing decision to cut the music off completely whenever "The Turn"™ happens. That was actually a pretty inspired choice. It really sold the "Ah, this relationship is no longer salvageable." feeling. Both of these points being tied to appeal to the masochist fantasy is hilarious but at this point not surprising.
If you have some kind of humiliation kink/ get off on disappointing the people around you? Check it out.
Panty shot fetish? Skip to the end of each episode and take a screenshot.
Literally everyone else? Just skip you are missing nothing.
