My Happy Marriage is a Cinderella-inspired story where possessing supernatural abilities is what determines your status in society. Our main protagonist, Miyo, possessed no ability and was hence treated like a servant in her own house. That was until she was sent away to marry someone from the Kudo family.
(Picture Source: Rotten Tomatoes thru' Google Image Search)The entire season is split into two parts, where the first part of the series is the main focus of the show. Miyo was treated badly in her own house to the point where she has extremely low self-esteem due to the daily belittling she received from her family. Sending her to be married to the Kudo family was also a cruel move from the Samori family as, according to the show, the head of the Kudo family (who is also the guy looking for marriage candidates) was rumoured to have a bad reputation.
However, the title of the series has already hinted that rumours are just rumours. It was shown that Kudo was actually a very caring person, and there were very good reasons for the previous failed marriage engagements. After having taken notice of Miyo's condition, the series focused on Miyo slowly gaining her self-esteem back through patience and gentle urging from Kudo. Eventually, this turned into a blissful marriage for Miyo.
I mean... why else would the show be called My Happy Marriage if it's otherwise?
(Picture Source: FandomWire thru' Google Image Search)In all honesty, the first part of the season was just a stepping stone for Miyo and Kudo to build their relationship before moving to the actual plot of the series. As a long time anime watcher, it was not surprising to learn of a plot twist at the second part of the season. Moreover, the show has already been dropping hints during the first part of the series.

I mean, he is the captain of his supernatural ability team in the military, he had difficulties finding a potential wife candidate, and when he did, he has to be careful on how he treats her because she has low self-esteem, deal with her recurring nightmares, and he also had to deal with his in-laws for being horrible people. Let's not forget about the second part of the series where he got separated from Miyo for a period of time.
Seriously, kudos to Kudo for sticking it through (no pun intended).

While Miyo does deserve a happy marriage, I think we should not forget Kudo's journey as well.
