The one reason that got me drawn to this anime is simply its artwork. No, I am not talking about the anime but the manga cover.
(Picture Source: TheOASG thru' Google Image Search)Look at how beautiful it is.
I am all about art. Give me artworks from Clamp, Sailor Moon, Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun, and even Junji Ito's works, I will be there watching the anime and/or reading the manga. I guess this could be the reason I am so picky about the anime-styled games I play... But of course, art isn't the only thing that keeps me going in anime, story is important too.

Vanitas no Carte follows the story of Vanitas, a vampire doctor and wielder of the powers of the Blue Moon, going around town healing vampires who had their sanity stolen. Noe follows Vanitas around to witness and study the powers of the Blue Moon under the behest of his teacher. So, the pair went around trying to solve the mystery of how vampires can go insane and who is the mastermind behind all of the troubles brewing in vampire society.

One of them caught my attention and the reviewer described the characters in the show as not being good or bad; each has their own motivations. And that is exactly what I was trying to convey in my review as well.
The characters in the story aren't necessarily good or bad, they each have a backstory that led to the decision they made in the present. Sure, we have an organisation of wayward vampires wanting to destroy vampire kind, but each of them probably had an experience that made them choose that path. That is what made this anime so intriguing to the watch because it makes me want to find out what happened in the past that led to the vampires' current situation.
The only other anime that had almost the same vibe as this series was D.Gray-Man. If you like that anime, then it is recommended that you watch this too, especially if you like steampunk.
