The Misfit of Demon King Academy 2 is a good closure to what this entire series is all about: regaining his lost and stolen glory from the imposter who seeks to destroy and erase him. Of course, the entire season 2 showed us that things are not what it really seems as there are a lot more complicated issues developed that led to situation at the end of the season.
(Picture Source: Turbostrider27 on Reddit thru' Google Image Search)One thing I want to address first is that there is an obvious change in the seiyuu casting for Anos. When I watched this season, I noticed that his voice became a lot deeper than in season 1. A quick check and it confirmed that there was a change in the seiyuu. I prefer the season 1's seiyuu for Anos, to be honest, as his voice was deep, but not too deep that it didn't fit Anos's character. In season 2, it was much deeper that it didn't feel right.
Unfortunately, the season 1 seiyuu did not reprise his role for Anos again in season 3, so we are stuck with the season 2's seiyuu for Anos. Although I do have a preference for the season 1's seiyuu, the change is somewhat subtle, as in Anos's voice has been deep from the beginning, so I got used to the new voice quickly since the change is kinda subtle.
Anyway, back to the story itself.
After the major events happening in season 1, season 2 sees our group of protagonist trying to go back to their peaceful daily lives as students at the demon king academy. However, a member of Anos's group was being targetted and this started a series of spiralling investigation into the why and who.
The story dived deeper into what exactly happened after Anos sacrificed his life to allow peace to wash over the land. The focus, this time, was on the fairies, and that also led to the answer of the why and who mentioned previously.
(Picture Source: The Cinemaholic thru' Google Image Search)I feel that the lore was well thought out and it didn't seem to leave behind any loopholes from what I could see. However, despite giving it a high positive rating, there were some things that were otherwise. I won't be spelling out all of them by the way.
The first, which is more cringe given the nature of this story, is the fan girls of Anos. I get it, Anos being a benevolent king to his own people would definitely want them to have a chance to shine. Even with small little actions, Anos would praise them to the high heavens. But what I could not get over is how they constantly have to sing.
(Picture Source: Crow's World of Anime thru' Google Image Search)I didn't address this in my season 1 review because it did not happen frequently. But in this season? Gosh...
I don't mind if song has great powers to defeat enemies, but like... can't they choose something more fitting to their theme? Like a dark academia kind of song would be more benefitting than this sudden lighthearted j-pop springing out of nowhere. I mean, that is just my personal opinion of this singing thing in the series.
Another issue I had is Lena. Before I move on, there is going to be a spoiler. To give a full context of my issue with Lena, I will put it in the spoiler link. But to help people who does not want spoilers, a very general and non-spoiler way for me to say is that Lena a suddenly became another person... I mean, yes, we have someone else who did that before Lena's revelation, but that someone else was understandable, Lena... not so much...
Alright, back to Lena. In the story, Lena is a love fairy of sorts, and according to the description, love fairies are forbidden to know who they are or else they will cease to exist forever.
(Picture Source: LeonKeviar on Reddit thru' Google Image Search)The issue I have with Lena is that towards the end of the series, when they started their counterattack against the child of god, Lena suddenly transformed into Reno. I mean like... aren't the two of them completely different people??
I may have possibily missed this but I don't recall it being explained in the anime. To me, that is quite a loophole that was not explained.
As mentioned earlier, I won't be spelling out all of the issues I have with this anime. Regardless, it was actually a fun series to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am only concerned about what they intend to show in season 3 because isn't this the end of what the entire story is about? We could only wait and see.
