In my life, I’ve always found myself connected to art and entertainment, video games and anime in particular. They’ve always played a fundamental role in my personal growth: they’re a deep passion of mine, and they’ve shaped who I am today. They were also, during the most difficult times, a way to distract myself from reality when it became too overwhelming.
Over time, I learned to explore both light hearted, fun works and others that are deeper and more reflective. But there’s always one thing I look for whenever I approach a new work: a lesson on how to live.
When I started watching Sound! Euphonium, I sensed it might offer what I was searching for, but I could never have imagined that an anime begun almost by chance would turn out to be the greatest work of art I’d ever experienced.
There’s not a single aspect of the show that left me unmoved: every element impacted me profoundly. In particular, this final chapter of the story made me truly realize what I had been witnessing.
A masterpiece. One of those that arrives at a precise moment in life and manages to move something inside you, something real, something sincere.
Sound! Euphonium is an incredibly powerful story of growth, and it succeeds because all of its components blend together in perfectly harmonious ways.
What I’m about to write isn’t really a review, but rather a letter to myself, so I never forget how impactful this anime was in my life.
What makes this experience so perfect for me? At the core lies its immense humanity, the way it portrays adolescence and the transition into adulthood.
This theme is explored through many elements that are handled flawlessly: excellent writing, both in dialogue, which is sharp and loaded with emotional weight, and in character development, where each character has their own inner motivations and vulnerabilities.
The dynamics among the band members are vibrant and realistic, each one deepening the complexity of the characters. Honestly, the word “characters” feels almost reductive: these are people, teenagers who make mistakes, question themselves, struggle, and change.
Of all of them, Kumiko left the deepest mark on me.
Her uncertainty about the future, her constant questioning of what to do, who to be, what to choose... These are questions I ask myself every day. In her, I saw my own doubts, my hesitations, and through her journey, I felt less alone.
Every small step she took forward, every moment she hesitated, every time she struggled to express what she felt... it made me feel understood in a way that few works have managed to achieve.
This exceptional ability to showcase deeply human aspects moved me to tears more than once.
Sometimes, even in moments that weren't necessarily sad, I found myself tearing up, because I realized I was witnessing exceptional writing and something truly beautiful.
Framing all of this is the animation and direction by Kyoto Animation, simply stellar. Every silence, every glance, every breath: all are amplified by perfect framing that captures the protagonists' sensations with extraordinary precision.

___
But above all else, growth is at the heart of this work.
Seeing this group of teenagers challenge themselves, dedicate themselves fully to a common goal, grow alongside one another, and mature… it was profoundly inspiring.
Not in an artificial way, with unnecessary drama, but with rare sincerity.
This is a story unafraid to show the pain of change, the sorrow of separation, the fragile beauty of shared commitment. There are moments when I feel like giving up trying to do better.
But while I was watching Sound! Euphonium, I realized that even in the toughest moments, there are still stories capable of moving you, reminding you that you’re not alone.
Stories that push you to believe that, maybe, meaning can be found even when things don’t go as you'd hoped.
I could talk for hours about everything in this series, and it still wouldn’t fully express how much I love it.
As I kept watching, I thought I had already experienced the emotional peak of the series, but then came a scene that shattered every expectation.
The moment that moved me most of all:
I’m a pretty emotional person: when something really connects with me, I can feel it deeply. Shivers and teary eyes are usually my typical reaction in moments that touch me profoundly.
But I had never broken down in tears.
That changed the moment I saw the end of episode 12.

It was in front of those frames that tears began to flow unexpectedly. And before I even realized, I was crying desperately, even to the point of sobbing. A heartbreaking scene, it encapsulates everything that makes Sound! Euphonium so special. The voice acting and animation were truly extraordinary. An interaction between the two girls so loaded with expressiveness that they revealed their rawest, most authentic fragility, entirely exposed.
___Again, there are really no words to capture the depth of feeling I have for this masterpiece.
Thank you to everyone who reads these thoughts of mine. I apologize if it didn’t come out perfectly, especially for any mistakes in English, as it’s not my first language, but I’ve truly tried to pour as much heart as possible into writing all of this.
