My Review of "Detectives These Days Are Crazy!"

“Random Bullshit Go!”
Story
Although this anime is episodic (meaning there’s not really a concise storyline), there are a few things that stay consistent throughout the episodes. Nagumo Keiichirou is a middle-aged detective who’s running a struggling detective agency due to his inability to catch up with the times and his health issues. Luckily for him, a high school girl named Mashiro shows up to help him. Unfortunately, Mashiro is a very sporadic and random girl who continuously surprises Nagumo every episode. She's both a blessing and a curse to Nagumo, but they must work together to get their detective agency back up from the gutters and profit.
Characters
Keiichirou Nagumo is a middle-aged detective with chronic back problems. He’s serious for the most part. His methods for problem-solving and doing detective work are very outdated, not knowing how to use lots of common modern technologies. Luckily, Mashiro’s mostly the opposite of him. She’s very energetic and random, being able to do lots of things that someone like her shouldn’t be able to do. She’s able to store lots, and I mean LOTS, of stuff in her chest, which ends up being both convenient and inconvenient in certain situations of the anime.
The Good
This anime has some funny moments, which should be expected in a comedy anime. I think the randomness of this anime has its quirks, which kept me interested throughout the episodes because I couldn’t tell what Mashiro or any of the characters would do next. Not to mention that most of the characters are easy to like because of how they’re presented, which I appreciated. I know some people will complain about certain characters having weird personalities, but I think that the anime handled these characters well, especially since they are labeled as “minor characters.” Not to mention that this anime had a few references I understood that just made this show even funnier than it was.
The Bad
Now, with an anime like this, not everyone’s going to appreciate the sort of humor that this anime takes. I did mention that the randomness of this anime has its quirks in the Good section of this review, but it also does have its negatives. There were a lot of scenes that felt thrown in unnecessarily that just confused me. This may be because I don’t know what the anime is referencing since there are a lot of references in this show, but if someone else who doesn’t understand these references watches the show, they may end up feeling the same thing. Sometimes too much randomness is too much, which ends up being the problem with anime that focus more on slapstick and random comedy over storylines.
The Downright Ugly
I did find some of Mashiro’s expressions ugly, but that’s all I could put here.
Is It Worth The Watch?
If you’re looking for an above average comedy that chooses humor over plot, this is worth the watch. It definitely can be a bit too much at times, but there are moments that do give me a couple chuckles. I think the more references you’ll understand, the more you’ll enjoy this show.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^
