In this review I'll talk about the whole show including both (R1+R2) and I'll rate them both
so let's start
Something i really love in this show is how it constantly asks and challenges you with questions about things like Justice, Sacrifice and Power
you always think is what Lelouch doing really right? what about Suzaku's actions too? as for another characters like Schneizel
Do you think the end justifies the means?
The world building
The political tension between major nations, the class system, racism, the way people are categorized and controlled and how Britannians look at the Elevens
all that gives the story a sense of weight that makes you feel like its close to reality
The Ending of the show
The final episode is easily the best in the entire series and one of the most powerful endings I’ve ever seen(if not the best)
when i realized why does Lelouch trying to control the world and why Suzaku is helping him to do that, Nunnally’s tears over her brother
the idea of him carrying the hatred of the entire world so that others can live in peace
I left the show with a wonderful question:

Yet despite all his strength and cruelty, he remains painfully human burdened with regret, guilt, and an intense sense of responsibility.
For me, he is one of the most well written MCs of all time.

I like his dynamic with Lelouch, he is the complete opposite of him, especially in his philosophy, While Lelouch believes that the end justifies any means, Suzaku tries to do the right thing (even though his own hands are already stained by killing his own father)
now he genuinely wants to be a good person, but his past choice that he made, and the things he was dragged into without even intending to do it make him feel that it almost impossible any more.
Suzaku is a character built on guilt, self punishment and contradictions
That inner conflict what makes Suzaku one of the deepest characters in the entire show.

I had many problems with the show one of them was how the characters react and change their attitudes so quickly sometimes in ways that feel exaggerated or inconsistent
and for a few other characters like Nina
There are also events in the story that feel random and poorly built up, especially in season two
And for the Emperor... I was really frustrated
after all that build up for him as he would be the final and the best boss I expected him to be one of the best character in the show. But he ended up being the most disappointing thing in the entire story
Last point is about the art style
the art style in the show feels completely mismatched with the dark tone of the story, even in scenes that are supposed to be heavy and tragic, that art style takes away from the seriousness and makes it harder to fully feel the impact.
In the end, the show truly has problems, but it also has strong emotional payoffs that made the experience enjoyable to me.
