A similar quote of this review's title is present in the book, the narrative of the first chapter will be delivering us some piece of content that will give us an idea of a possible outcome. Throughout the story our minds will be also formulating some theories of what's going to happen behind the characters' curtains, a fraction of that is thanks to the main character, who is an empathetic person that is also tuned to his own feelings, he has a strong sense of justice and his monologues complement some of our guessings about the happenings along the way. He's in the last year of high school.
Fortunately, there is some creativity to the narrative that might change the perspective of some plot elements and strike the reader after finishing this light novel. I think it had some purpose to put some of the mysteries in a foreseeable way. I really liked how Takemiya-sensei wrote this work, I could feel connected with the settings and the characters most of the time.
And what about the characters? In my opinion, the main character's monologues are compelling , and his dialogues with the other characters tend to be that way too. It was riveting for me following Hamada Kiyosumi's participation until the end. About the other relevant characters, some of them I've really found interesting as the story progresses, like his best friend Tamaru and the Ozaki sisters.
It's important to say that this novel deals with sensitive content, and that's where Hari Kuramoto comes, another key character who is being bullied at school. Since Hamada has a strong sense of justice and sees her suffering, he wants to be a hero and know more about this strange girl from the first year of his high school.
I don't have profound complaints about my experience reading it, but that doesn't mean that this is a perfect piece of writing. The part I enjoyed the least was around the last pages, because I felt that lacked some depth there, at least when compared to the previous sections.
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys light novels in general, as well the drama genre along with a plot focused on teenagers.
As the date I'm writing this review (November 2025), I haven't found this book available in any other languages than Japanese, German and Portuguese.
Before wrapping this review up, I want to show you another style to express my review (inspired by the Ozaki sisters from this LN):
Yo, this is my review. The Ashes of My Flesh and Blood is the Vast Flowing Galaxy is the book. I enjoyed it. You know, it's a good story. It has emotional stuff. Btw, I enjoy reading light novels. That's all.
