I started watching One Piece in 2020 during the long and quiet months of the COVID lockdowns. At the time the anime had just returned from its pandemic break and was around episode 930, and somehow in less than two months I ended up completely caught up. What began as something to simply pass the time quickly became one of the most meaningful experiences I have ever had with any form of storytelling. During those long days when the world felt uncertain, diving into the vast seas of One Piece gave me something steady to look forward to. It became a daily routine, almost a ritual, that brought comfort and excitement at a time when everything else was on pause.
Luffy is the core reason One Piece hit me the way it did. His constant hope, his carefree attitude, and the way he charges straight into problems without ever doubting himself felt incredibly special to me. Even in the most overwhelming situations he trusts his own strength and the people around him. That mindset taught me a lot and I found myself applying it to real life, facing challenges with more confidence and less hesitation because his character showed me so clearly what it looks like to move forward without fear. Luffy’s optimism is not naive but powerful, and it reminded me that even in chaotic moments you can choose to believe in yourself and the people who matter to you.
The journey itself felt almost real. Watching Luffy meet Zoro then the rest of the crew and seeing their bonds grow stronger with every island made me feel like I was traveling beside them the whole way through. Their laughter, their struggles, their arguments, their victories, and all the small moments between adventures created a sense of belonging that is rare in long running stories. The world building only strengthened that feeling even more. Every island, culture, character, and conflict felt alive and full of its own history. The grand scale of the world mixed with the personal dreams of the Straw Hats made every step of the adventure feel important, emotional, and memorable.
Fast forward to 2025 and I am still completely caught up with the show. I counted the days until Gear 5 would finally be animated and I have never felt such joy watching an episode in my life. The excitement, the energy, and the emotion of that moment even made me cry because it felt like witnessing a dream come to life after years of buildup. Now in 2025 I still keep up with the story every week and look forward to seeing what it becomes. Even if the One Piece itself ends up being something simple or not what people expect it does not matter to me at all. The journey and the world Oda has created are already incredible enough. Whatever the final treasure is it will never change how amazing this story is or how much it has meant to me.
