So. Bravern.
I heard about this show quite a lot (mostly because it was the "Gay Sex Robot Show"), and i decided to check it out recently.
I have MANY thoughts on it, but to make it simple : I love this show quite a lot. I have some issues with it, but i still mostly really love it.
In terms of characters, Isami, Smith and Bravern are really really incredible leads, and i absolutely the relationship between Isami and Smith particularly, it's touching and emotional. Lulu and Superbia are mostly really good (though i have some issues with them). A lot of the side cast is pretty servicable, though a bit forgettable.
In terms of general story, it's pretty good. It's mostly told through the characters, with the villains just being mostly decent and one-note. They do their jobs and it works fine enough. Though i will say i think the military focus can get a little bit much at times.
The animation is simply fantastic, and i really don't have a single issue with it, same with the choreography and the music.
The show has a bit of a pacing issue, with it going REALLY FAST in its last few episodes. It not bad, but i wish it got at least a few more episodes to give more focus to Lulu and Superbia at least.
The show really is about bravery, the nature of heroism and all that, as well as love (in all senses of the word), and i think those themes are really well communicated and treated. The way Bravern, this Super Robot symbol of hope and a bright future, is connected to Isami, who starts as a no-nonsense serious military man, is really interesting and their growth together is quite simply beautiful. I love them.
I don't want to spoil much, but this next and last part will be about my biggest issue with the show, and this is a spoiler, so don't read ahead if you want to watch it.
Lulu and Superbia. God, i don't get what they were trying to do with those starting with episode 10. The whole time travel stuff comes out so suddenly, i really think we should have gotten an episode with lulu acting weirdly and THEN revealing that she's from the future. Beyond that, i really don't get the idea of Lulu and Superbia's relationship. Initially i thought it was gonna be about famillial love, to contrast with Isami and Bravern's romantic love, but then after there's this whole sequence where it's seemingly a metaphor for Sex ????? But she still calls him Uncle ????? And then after that it's only treated as famillial love again ??????? It feels like they were deciding which one to go with and they just. Chose both and it DOESN'T WORK. All the famillial parts are the best because they're a pretty funny duo.
That was my review, watch the show it's great.
For some reason i needed to add this sentence to post the review, don't read this, or do it i don't really care.
