When you hear “a late‑90s kids’ cartoon with three magical girls”, what do you picture? Most people would expect something like a less action Powerpuff Girls or a light show with some quirky magic lore and a few hurdles for the girls to clear now and then. But this show is something different
The show is very episodic, and most episodes focus on the personal problems of school kids in a way that feels genuinely relatable. The show spends a massive amount of time on the classmates of our trio like each of them has a distinct personality, home life, and their own struggles which makes the world feel lived in and real. It many times brought a smile to my face. At some point, at least one situation will hit you, remind you of something from your own past, or even mirror something in your present. It really captures that natural childhood feeling of wanting to help someone around you but not being able to, because a kid only has so much power. Then it asks what if those kids actually got the power to help others and make the world around them a little brighter with whatever the power they have? That is what this show is about and it makes it feel very special
Also, the final episode is just beautiful
I like how the characters grow throughout. Growth in Doremi is kinda unique cuz it’s about becoming more of who you already are rather than transforming into someone new. I actually hate it when people associate growth/development with just change or strength.
Don't even get me started on the comedy bro. I personally found it very funny. The expressive faces just add to it a lot like you can fined a lot of memeable faces in every episode. Many who know me know I don't like whatever I've seen from Grand Blue or One Piece like most people for their over reliance on loudness masked as comedy and I have the same opinion on most mass-appealing "comedy" anime too. But this one made me smile many times with genuinely
I also love the oldschool animation with a vibrant matte color palette which I believe Toei absolutely shines at the time from what I've seen along with excellent character acting that brings every little expression and gesture to life. I also love the voice acting
Even though it’s made as a kids’ show, it feels perfect for all ages, from children to their parents and even their grandparents. There is so much warmth and positivity in it that it works best as something you dip into whenever you feel like it rather than something you rush through in a binge though in the end it depends on what kind of viewer you are
Forgive me, I just yap about a bunch of stuff and call it a review
