It is a tough watch, man. I genuinely mean that. I started this anime thinking I was ready for whatever it had to offer, but by the time it ended, it felt like the anime ended me instead. This isn’t one of those shows you casually watch in the background or forget about after a few days. It sticks with you. It hurts. And honestly, that’s part of why it’s so special to me.
From the very beginning, the anime does not waste time. The pacing is surprisingly good, especially for a series that constantly juggles action, emotion, and tragedy. The fights are absolutely peak, brutal, intense, and memorable. They don’t feel flashy just for the sake of it. Every battle has weight, consequences, and emotional stakes. You can feel that no one is truly safe, and that alone keeps you on edge the entire time.
But the ending is what truly broke me. It’s the kind of ending that leaves you staring at the screen in silence, trying to process what just happened. It’s painful, heavy, and not at all easy to digest. Even if you see parts of it coming, it still hits hard. This is where a lot of people might drop the anime or dislike it, and honestly, I understand why. This anime is not for the weak, and it’s definitely not for everyone.
Despite all that pain, I got extremely attached to this anime. The characters grow on you whether you want them to or not, and once that attachment forms, every loss hits ten times harder. I’ll openly admit that I’m biased when it comes to my rating. This anime made me feel things, and that matters more to me than technical perfection.
And of course, Esdeath. Yes, I am biased. Yes, I think I can fix her. No, I will not elaborate. She’s easily one of the most memorable characters in the series. Terrifying, charismatic, and weirdly captivating. Whether you love her or hate her, she leaves a strong impression, and for me, she played a big role in why I enjoyed the anime as much as I did.
It’s also worth mentioning that the anime cuts out some parts from the manga and completely changes the ending. This is a huge point of debate among fans. Personally, I think both the anime and the manga have their own flaws and strengths. Neither version is perfect, and which one you prefer really depends on what you value more. Instead of comparing them too harshly, I see them as two different interpretations of the same story.
So should you watch this anime? My answer is simple. Only if your heart is strong. This series will test you emotionally, and it won’t hold your hand. But if you’re someone who enjoys intense action, emotional storytelling, and anime that dares to hurt you, this might become something special for you too. For me, despite all the pain, it’s a 10 out of 10, and I don’t regret it at all.
