So basically, the demons are just humans but with magic. This seems to be not just a demon thing, but more like a different race: different skin tones, slightly different body features, and that's it. No one seems to be actively hunting them in public except the bourgeoisie, who have a much better army and fear-mongering against the demons.
They're literally just humans with a touchy quirk where some of them have a controlled indulgence in the seven sins. It seems like that on the surface with all the dialogue at least, but when you actually think about it, it's a healthy act of ambition and basic-level love for simple pleasures and fulfilled living. Most of them, if not all, live by strict moral principles that seem to outmatch the humans in the world. This causes them to be clear targets of misinterpretation from either fear-mongering or propaganda pieces, leading people to read their good-intentioned actions as malice when it's just confirmation bias and coincidence aligning.
The best dad of the year (Hell Lord)'s actions in the secrets follow a strict moral code. From what I can gather off vibes, his actual infiltration plans probably aim to accomplish either peace between the two human races at odds or to secretly lead the human world to flourish and see the people happy, even if that means still being painted the villain, not getting credit for his help, or wish of goodwill upon the people. It's similar to how he was just happy that the princess and Vanilla became friends. That was what I recall as the first time he was truly satisfied with a torture secret, or at least it felt quite different enough for me to call it the first heartfelt genuine one.
Speaking of Vanilla and the princess, episode 10 was a really heartfelt moment in the anime. Seeing the princess show compassion and fondness in Vanilla's flaw and unnecessary self-pressure she puts on herself by making herself take the initiative whenever she catches on in place of Vanilla, instead of just pushing her straight to the conclusion with what would've been an easy one-liner pointing it out. She lets Vanilla take the burden of her own development and lets her go at her own pace. That way she truly helped her out as a life-changing friend. Because you can't help someone out by grabbing their hand and dragging them through a wall they're scared to cross. You instead either hold their hands and follow them, making sure they're not alone in the fight, or you cross the wall and patiently, warmly wait for them on the other side, smiling at them or giving encouragement or guidance when they truly need it most. This is true IRL too. Whichever path you choose to help is up to you and your personal style. The princess took the latter option in my opinion, and it was one of the greatest representations of the true love a friendship can have. 10/10 episode.
The ending was so sweet. The princess truly learned how valuable friendship is and no longer wanted to live a life of sacrificing the friendships she got because it was "what she had to do." (Yes, we don't know about the past friendship more than a flashback, but it seemed she learned an alternate action she could've taken and is now taking, so I'm going with this speculation.) When Torture said it's possible this would be the last time she meets her friends, she tells her she will never succeed if she was alone. For once I truly believe it when she says that. I think we would've seen her with courage and determination that would be frightening, knowing how she is normally, and she would go to hell and back just to make sure she hangs out with them again, because it could be the last time she would be with this beautiful family.
No amount of temptation would've worked because just like in an anime I love, Ascendance of a Bookworm, whenever you are dealing with trouble with close loved ones, friends, mentors, hell even just a vague grouping of some humans you don't know personally but feel a fellow-man connection with, all your most beloved interests, hobbies, addictions, and things you live for all lose their life. And these are the same family that gave the princess more life than she was ever allowed before. They showed her the stars and beauty of walks. They showed her friendship and the fulfillment it shares. They showed her the childhood and community she never got. And fuck, if you wouldn't go to hell and back for that then you're either a capitalist or you're very traumatized.
If I can be personal, I am too. Friends scare me, and letting anyone close to my heart frightens me. But I am working on it, at my own pace. Because honestly, without the sharing of humanity between humans, life feels really pointless. And that's why I enjoy watching animes like this. Found family gives me the courage to try and be more open to letting people in and accepting their love, even if it hurts like hell sometimes. Because humanity is awesome, and I wanna be friends with humans who still have touch with their humanity in this cruel individualist world.
12/10 isekai from a non-isekai anime.
