I love this manga because of how the main character Kyouko Mogami uses all her will power to fit any role in a show or movie perfectly. I watched the anime first and started the manga! I really hope for it to get fully animated!
(Short summary + small spoilers of what Kyouko does)
The story begins showing the main character Kyouko, as a naive teenager that is in love and left her education behind to support her crush/childhood friend. Once she finds out her crush/best friend Shoutarou was talking behind her back, Kyouko starts her revenge plan. At first, she was way in over her head wanting to become famous right away so Shoutarou could regret using her. When she finally joins the industry—using methods no one should imitate... she learns to have a love for acting and doesn't just want to pursue it because of her hatred towards Shoutarou. We see how Kyouko grows as a person and adapts to roles fast. We get a better understanding of Kyoko because of her backstory, it explained why she went through such lengths for her best friend. Kyoko had a desire to be loved since she never received it making her chase approval. Kyoko was able to get more roles, finish her studies, have self-discovery, and maybe truly have a real love in the end.
(What I love about the story)
The manga art gets better as you go along and I always get excited for her to get a new acting role. There are also many comical panels. I always look forward to Kyoko's outfits and her change in personality. It's fun to see how such a lively spirited girl can achieve a cold demeanor and get so wrapped into the role she doesn't realize it herself. When you first see her, you wouldn't think she could pull off such complex parts but then she ends up outshining those who have acted the part before her.
(Other Characters)
Ren Tsuruga is such a good character. He works in the same industry as Kyoko and is a love interest. I haven't finished it yet so I am not sure, but from what I see, he hasn't really opened up to her completely yet. He was able to share his more vulnerable side with Kyoko when she was in a disguised costume. It is easier for some people to open up to complete strangers a lot of the time. I want to see more of Ren's character, and I also want him to tell Kyoko the secret he has been keeping from her.
I am conflicted on how I feel about Shoutarou. I didn’t like him in the beginning but later on you can see he regretted what he did but still has some selfish intentions. It seemed like he wanted to comfort or help Kyoko when they were kids but never knew how to “deal” with her. I feel as though it was easy for him to take advantage of Kyoko when they got older because of the pedestal she put Sho on. He was forced to be with her because of his parents, and he was always annoyed with her, seeing her as foolish. She changed a lot because of what Sho did and his decisions, making her into the person she is now because of his choices. I think he sees her as much more now because of how independent she is, and he wants her back since she was supposed to be his from the beginning. To see such a talented and hardworking person climb and succeed, and that person being someone he was supposed to be with might make him feel some sort of way. I hope he can feel true remorse for what he did and rebuild Kyoko and his friendship. I do believe he still cares for her since he visited her after the segment with her mom.
It’s true—living your best life is the perfect revenge.
