It wasn't perfect just because it was only an hour and a half long, it could have been at least two hours, but there wasn't a single moment that felt tedious. The development of Yuta and his love for Rika was done in such an incredible way that
The movie has great animation and an atmosphere that keeps you hooked and excited to see what happens next. It's quite frantic due to the fights, yet somehow cozy as well, because of the way the other Jujutsu High students treat Yuta (despite Maki's strong disapproval at first). Having Toge Inumaki as a partner is a highlight, as he shares a similar condition to the protagonist. Toge suffered for most of his life because of 'his curse,' much like Yuta.
As mentioned before, the movie felt a bit short for the story it tells, with moments that could have been better explored, but it’s understandable why it has that runtime. The high-quality animation and the technical skill required to direct it justify the length. It wasn't a major issue that ruined the experience, precisely because the film was worth every minute, it’s so good that it just leaves you wanting more. MAPPA did an amazing job; their projects never disappoint, especially with a series like Jujutsu that requires extra care. It’s a slap in the face to other studios that animate just for the money and don’t work with love.
Anime films have a lot of potential to gain even more attention, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has a story that manages to be understandable even for those who know nothing about the anime (although it's easier to understand if you watch it). It is gratifying that more and more people can see the quality of Jujutsu, one of the best anime currently airing, with some of the best animation and one of the best narratives. I hope the excellent quality remains and that there will be more films.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is essential to delve deeper into the characters' backstories before jumping straight into the second season. That being said, I recommend watching the movie after the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc (specifically after episode 9, during the Shibuya Incident arc).
