A sports story that questions your motive.
This isn't about basketball, nor ping pong or volleyball. Ironically enough neither is it about running. 100M serves introspection on a platter in the form of sports.

I'll briefly touch on art and sound design.. and all I can give is unending praise. Firsty the crescendo of music is to be expected from a sport story, but it is primarily filled with environmental ambiance. Planes, people talking, footsteps, crinkles, birds, wind even. This EXUDES life into the story with its intentionality to every sound. Anything you can and can't see has a sound you can hear. This lends itself to the dialogue driven introspection we must confront. Instead of the thoughts sitting idly in our head, we are transported in the real world with the living things and systems in place.
Secondly, the heavy use of rotoscope is apparent, but I believe the color palette is what further highlights the models. The synergy of the gritty, art painting esque, standstill backgrounds juxtaposed to the life and saturated team colors on our characters, pinch me I can't look away.
Closing Thoughts
Your work doesnt necessarily define you but it communicates what you cherish. Your goals, your accomplishments, your defeats it all pales in comparison to conscientiously doing what you enjoy; even greater doing it alongside someone or others. 100M serves as a cautionary tale where determining self worth is more than end results.. sometimes there is nothing greater than accepting the level of your competence but still doing your absolute best at it. And while running 100 meters was our track, we are faced with the reality that these trials field everywhere else.
With that, 100 Meters solidifies itself as a story I'll never get tired of hearing because, to me, there is nothing more provocative than a question that engages your true self. Why do you do the things you do? Do you enjoy it? Is it worth it? And every time the answer is yes, the comfort eases your soul because like Togashi says, "It's more than just a sport... Winning the 100 meter dash can solve almost anything."
