This show is definitely a weird one and not one that I would probably recommend watching. It's like a worse version of My Wife Has No Emotion; although I suppose Hotaru (the main character) is not a robot but she might as well be with the way she acted throughout the show.
The show is basically about Hotaru and her love interest Hananoi. It follows their relationship dynamic and how they slowly progress into a romance niche. However in this show the dude is more of a Yandere and the girl is clueless about her emotions.
I'll start with Hananoi since I feel like he is the one who made me uncomfortable watching this show. This show really screams watt-pad fanfic by how this guy acts. He is creepy, acts weird and obsessive but is written off because hes hot and his parents moved away. Yeah no. It's just odd. I don't really accept that as redeemable for the way he acts and treats Hotaru, taking advantage of her childlike mentality. It also makes me question why the hell his parents even had him if they just wanna go prance about the world anyway into poorer countries. But watching him spam hugs and pinning Hotaru to the wall as a hot guy trope trump card will never not be funny. It just amplifies the awkwardness of their relationship.
As for Hotaru herself, I just feel like shes just a bit flawed. My biggest gripe was with her and her stupid hair plot line. You would really just sit there and let your friend cut your hair just because they didin't like something you did? Really? I'd get it if it was something like the girl got a bunch of girls to gang up on her or something but no, Hotaru just sits there and tanks the scissors like a champ. O.K. Other than that it just feels like she was just a gag character.
It's crazy to think that Hananoi's grandma probably got more runtime than Hotaru's whole family put together.
The OST was pretty cool, not that there were many different tracks which is fine. The one romance scene OST was pretty funny to hear repeatedly but the show didin't have too much budget clearly so I get it
The sub and dub both were similar but I just chose the dub so I could just take in what I just watched.
To be fair the visuals were never going to be the selling point of this. I'm not going to pretend that they are. Some of the inconsistency between scenes was pretty funny to see though. The only other bit I'll add is that Hananoi looked way more interesting with longer hair.
The story itself isn't the worst. It's just the character dynamics that make it bad. A typical, falling in love and finding out what love is all about trope is not the worst. There is a lot of romance shows that do the same thing. I still kinda wished the story followed a different set of characters though. Or atleast fleshed out Hotaru's family a bit.
creep/10
TLDR plot and final thoughts -----------
All in all this was a weird watch. Past episode 9 I felt like I was indifference watching it.
