[10/01/26] Noragami (Anime) - 8.1/10
I think the 2 other main characters, Yukine ans Hiyori are just kind of too normal for me..? Hiyori feels just like a typical Japanese teenage girl that I see all the time in anime. Her character is not bad i guess, just not all too interesting outside of her being a half spirit. She isn't any Tomo Kunagisa, Sumire Akane, Yuki Osanai, Haruhi Suzumiya, or any other of these female animanga characters with eccentric personalities, Hiyori just pales in comparison. Of course, this is just from season 1, and things could be subject to change in season 2 or in the manga. Also don't really like that she's a middle schooler. I have no issues with young characters, man im a teenager myself ? but sometimes i wish they was older, and i think its not to relevant to make her like, idk how old she is, 15 i think? I wish she was like 18/19. Then theres Yukine, who i just think is simultaneously boring and also quite annoying. I completely understand why he acts like that tbh, but that doesn't mean i want to see this nigga fream out over seeing a girls collarbone, or a few centimeters of a bra, or the fact that hes using the same water to bathe as a girl. Its just such a mundane thing that it doesn't make me care for him that much, yet its annoying enough for me to dislike seeing him act like that. Same with him just acting like a bitch with Yatō, plus him being kind of pathetic at times. After his character development, he just becomes kind of boring. Both deuteragonists are just not interesting to me
Alongside that, i don't really like the external conflicts in this story. Idrk why, im having a hard time articulating the reason, but if i were to try my best, i guess its probably because it starts to feel like a battle shōnen and i feel like it messes with the vibe I'm getting from the story, to the point where the stakes and tension dont are severely mitigated for me. Its just too afraid to be mundane. The animations are good but the fight scenes are also a bit underwhelming, and i also dislike the music in this anime, too generic, lacks an identity and ion think it fits the vibe too perfectly. I also am not feeling the mystery about Yatō's past at all unless it informs his current behavior to a high degree, my opinion is that who cares bro, sh happened a long time ago
This anime reminds me alot of TBHK, which imo i find much, much more interesting even with its mid animation in season 1. I think I'm biased though since i read the manga and it's actually so damn good, i really like it's buildup to the more intense parts of the story when it's not afraid to be mundane
With all these complaints make it sound like i hate this anime, i don't actually, imo its decent, just dissapointed a little since i thought it would be much more, which is why i nitpicked alot cs i had high expectations. The things that I do like is Yatō himself, hes a pretty fun character whilst also checking off that eccentricity box to the point where he doesn't feel boring or like I've seen his exact character multiple times beforehand. I like the juxtaposition between him being a god vs his living situation and the fact that he doesn't really appear like this larger then life figure you'd expect him to be. His relationships with the different gods and learning about the way he interacts with them is quite nice to see, plus the episodes without any fighting (in the earlier episodes) are much better to watch for me imo, i guess it fits more with the vibe i thought this anime would have. Anyways, overall, its alright
