Spoilers Ahead! Warning!
I was a bit disappointed by this, it was just a recap of the season before. I had finished season 1 only a few days ago or so, and I was expecting an actual OVA here.
For the first 20 minutes I was thinking that there would actually be something of substance soon, but I was wrong, I thought that this book would come to something, or maybe they would finish it quicker than taking an hour. Instead this movie acts as a nice recap, with a few edits from Reigen. I will be honest too, the first time I saw them put Reigen’s face over someone, I chuckled, but aside from that I have already seen almost all of this in season 1, excluding a few segments where Mob is writing. He even expressed how he was appreciative of how Reigen was paying him a usual hourly wage, with the addition of a massive zero point two percent of royalties.
The only other part that was different from this was the end sequence, this consisted of Mob finishing writing the book, with all of Reigen’s additions and exaggerations included, and the telepathy club was all proud of him. I never knew he got on that well with them but I suppose he would if he was there every day with the body improvement club. Said body improvement club also congratulated him on finishing his book, and invited him to lift weights. I always find it so funny how eager Mob is to lift the weights, it seems like he really does enjoy it.
Although, before he was going to print the book, Hanazawa and Ritsu entered, and Hanazawa suggested everyone proofreads it. Everyone agrees to do this, even Dimple was there. The looks on the faces of everyone there really just gave it away, they were not impressed with Reigen’s edits. This made for a funny scene next.
This was when Reigen had the book printed, with cover and all, and instead of his exaggerated events, it was what actually happened, you can tell he wasn’t happy, he started to flip through pages, and then became really detailed, which is when you know he is getting serious. Even better was the fact that his con artist details were listed in a bonus chapter in the back of the book, describing the courage it takes to throw salt at spirits. He also shows Mob his fundraiser, which had 2,500 yen in it. Enough for a takeout meal. This led to them going to get ramen, and it turned out that the fundraiser money was put there by Reigen anyway, and somehow Mob was really impressed by this.
I enjoyed the last scene, it was Reigen drinking away his worries.
Favourite characters would be the same as season 1, they should be in the review for that (Reigen, Mob, Ritsu).
Overall, the score is alright because there was some extras and it is Mob Psycho, but I probably should’ve found out if it was a recap before watching.
