Alright, so before we get started, Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 is getting a 10/10 for me. SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!
Now that that’s out of the way, this is my review for this legendary season of anime—honestly, where do I even start? I guess I’ll begin with the characters, because this season really feels like the peak for so many of them. For a lot of the cast, this is where everything they’ve been building toward finally pays off. Take Levi Ackerman, for example—he completely dominates this season. Not only does he have some of the most insane, aura-filled action moments in the entire series, but we also get a deeper emotional look at him, especially after the death of Erwin Smith. Speaking of Erwin, his speech before the charge is genuinely one of the most legendary and unforgettable moments in anime history. It’s powerful, emotional, and perfectly captures the themes of sacrifice and leadership. His death hits incredibly hard and leaves a lasting impact on both the characters and the audience.
Then there’s Reiner Braun, who, while definitely having a bit too much plot armor at times, still gets meaningful development. We really see how much his time in Paradis and his double life have mentally destroyed him. His internal conflict adds a lot of depth to his character. As for the main trio—Eren Yeager, Armin Arlert, and Mikasa Ackerman—they all go through major growth. Eren, in particular, matures a lot in this season and takes on a much darker, more serious tone compared to earlier seasons. His obsession with freedom becomes even more intense and starts to define his character in a deeper way. Armin’s arc is also incredibly emotional, as he has to live with the guilt of being chosen over Erwin, which adds a heavy psychological weight to his character moving forward. Mikasa, while more subtle in her development, still shows growth as she continues to struggle with her identity and her attachment to Eren.
PLOT
The plot at first seems straightforward: humanity is launching a desperate mission to reclaim Shiganshina from the Titans. This leads to some of the most intense and well-executed battles in the entire series. However, everything changes by the end of the season when the truth hidden in Grisha’s basement is finally revealed. The discovery that humanity exists beyond the walls completely shifts the entire narrative. What once felt like a simple survival story against monsters suddenly becomes a much larger, more complex story about the world, history, and human conflict. This twist doesn’t just impact this season—it redefines the entire series going forward.
EPISODES
The best episodes of this season are easily Episode 17 (“Hero”), Episode 16 (“Perfect Game”), and Episode 18 (“Midnight Sun”). The fact that these three episodes come back-to-back-to-back is honestly insane. Watching them felt like an emotional rollercoaster that just wouldn’t stop. Each episode raises the stakes higher than the last, delivering incredible action, heartbreaking moments, and some of the best storytelling the series has to offer. “Hero,” in particular, stands out as one of the greatest anime episodes ever made. And honestly, there isn’t a single bad episode this season. None of them feel mid or even just “okay”—they’re all consistently great, which makes it impossible to even pick a worst episode.
ANIMATION
Now for the less important (but still very impressive) aspects—animation. Wit Studio once again does an amazing job, just like they did in Seasons 1 and 2. The action scenes are incredibly well-animated, especially the ODM gear sequences, which are fast, smooth, and visually stunning. The sense of speed and movement is handled perfectly, making every battle feel intense and dynamic. The only minor complaint I have is the use of CGI for the Colossal Titan. While it doesn’t completely ruin anything, it does stand out compared to the hand-drawn animation used elsewhere in the series. It would have been even better if it had been animated traditionally like in Season 1.
OVERALL
Attack on Titan gets a lot of hype, but this season proves that it absolutely deserves it. Season 3 Part 2 is a near-perfect blend of action, emotion, character development, and storytelling. It delivers on every level and leaves a lasting impact that few anime can match. This isn’t just one of the best seasons of Attack on Titan—it’s one of the best seasons in anime, period.
