This show is ngl pretty good, but it basically just baits you with what is a decent story and imo a good romance, for depression.
Animation: 7
Nothing special, but doesn't break or make the show. Just average run of the mill stuff.
Music: 9
I thought the OP was pretty good, the music throughout was pretty well timed, and came in at moments that really stirred the dark depths of that broken thing I call a heart.
Characters: 9
I thought the character were well developed, Willem in particular is probably the most well written character of the show. His backstory is interesting, but nothing really special, however, how it builds his character, and the suspense as we slowly learn more, builds him up quite nicely. Chtholly on the other hand... Eh. Her character of "losing memory" and fighting for her sanity wasn't the most interesting imo, it kinda just killed her character of this older sister who acts as a mom for what are essentially orphans, into a plot device. While it helped develop the story, it just made her into nothing more than just that. A plot device. Best girl was very clearly Nephren, if you disagree with this statement you deserve to be put in solitary confinement till you repent for being so, so wrong.
Plot: ???
Honestly, idk. This show has a really... interesting plot. I wish it wasn't so depressing IMO, like actually, everyone dies at the end, because of best girl. And the saddest part? Willem gets NO credit for what he did, he doesn't get a portrait, like wtf. And don't pull the "oh it's fine cuz reincarnation" because fuck you. This show is simultaneously one of the shows I have the strongest feelings about, and the most confused feelings about. I think the ending was definitely way too rushed, you could tell the pacing was comparable to Sonic on crack. But even rushed endings can fail to break a good story, so the question is if it broke the story. Eh. I think it definitely hurt what could've been an amazing show (if it only had better than just sub-par animation to back it up), turning it into what was a depressing, but enjoyable mediocre experience. If I had to give the plot a score, I'd give it a 9, simply because how it makes you feel emotion (depression). If a show does that, it successfully invested you into its characters, and hurt them in at least a slightly non bullshit way. I think the flip side to something like this would be Snow White with the Red Hair, where you kinda like the characters, but everything in that show doesn't make you feel anything. (But thats a review for another time.)
Overall Score: 89
Since most of the grades are subjective, and have no real influence on the final grade, I give this show an 89. It was pretty decent, but just on the cusp of being pretty dang good.
