The girl, Sakura gets intrigued by him and starts following him around, wanting to get closer to him and possibly even fall in love. What drives this movie is no doubt, our main heroine who is a very impactful character with a lot of energy and spice. So, you can't help but love her, and she is so much fun to watch on screen, whether it's witnessing one of her shenanigans unfold or her more serious side in play.
The main male is nothing to write home about, but he was a good match for this movie, and albeit not appropriately paced, it was very nice to see him change while he was with Sakura, how she affected him was done tastefully and didn't feel forced. I didn't like him at first, but that changed as I continue watching the movie as well. The interaction between the two was a joy and Sakura always put a smile on my face when she said or did something. To the point, I had to reserve a spot for her in my favorites, she was just that much likable and charming for me.
While the art was not the best, it had some moments where it looked pretty good, so the minor nitpick is not even viable anymore, but also if it didn't, I barely noticed it. On the other hand, the background looked gorgeous and nicely detailed. The animation was also spot-on and didn't think they cut any corners, it had some still frames, but it was only during regular conversations, so I wouldn't actually count it as an issue either.
Also, the sound was not groundbreaking but far from bad, the opening and ending was definitely the strong point about it, and I didn't dislike either of them. The soundtrack we did get in the movie was also adequate enough and fit the mood it was played in and didn't sound out of place.
At first, going into this anime, my first impression was dull and wasn't going to be anything too memorable, I lowered my expectations quite a bit as I watched it. However, I come out pleasantly surprised by the end, and I enjoyed it way more than I taught I would be able to. It was a worthwhile experience, and I am glad I chose to watch this. It had the right balance of drama and slice of life; it didn't feel too much or forced.
Even the very thing that annoyed me, talking about Kyoko, and how she came off as annoying, and I taught she wasn't going to add anything to the movie. But my worries were quickly solved, and it left me with a satisfying ending. I really like how they managed to become friends, in the end. Haruki also had changed a lot by that point, his hair cut symbolizes that, and if that's not enough, his attitude toward Kyoko and the overall vibe of his character is more than adequate proof of that.
Personally, I wouldn't mind a sequel to see Haruki change take place over multiple episodes or chapters. This was my only issue, but I instead call it to nitpick since it's understandable with the amount of run time a movie can have. In fact, me wanting to see more is proof that this was a good movie and well worth my time. However, as previously stated, I really liked that ending and didn't think something was missing.
If anything, I would love to see Sakura live, and how she died was so unexpected, was not expecting a damn human to stab her. I was caught off guard, and before I knew it, the tears started flowing. I would like to give that idiot a beatdown. For all we know, she might've had more than a year to live if just not for the idiotic stabber. On the other hand, it's a known tactic, but the execution was still spot-on and probably managed to get the reaction out of me which the director was expecting.
This was a pretty good movie, and I would recommend it to anyone who has almost two hours to kill. It's certainly not for everyone, and I can see people think its boring for multiple reasons. However, I was one of those so-called people, but in my defense, I came out pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed my time with "I want to Eat your Pancreas."
