I basically rushed the whole anime + film in a couple of days. I may have not cried the whole way through in the anime despite some tears did fall among the way. The film was another world apart. The Original Soundtrack and plot moved me completely. It's likely for someone who rushed the anime as me to just spend the whole film crying rather than enjoying the film itself ( I would say 5/6 of this film). Throughout the anime series ( 13 episodes ) you are immersed into a typical slice of life where a boy just goes to school in order to move on, as any high-school boy would do. However, the main topic that this anime goes about is the Adolescent Syndrome. If I recall correctly, there were 4 arcs in the 13 episode span and I liked them all as a whole. Maybe it was not a series where every single viewer would cry but still it's noticeable how well done the show as a whole it is.
Moreover, the plot in the film goes straight to your "heart" literally and subjectively. Every track that is being played on the background does fit each scene accordingly to what is happening and is key for the unexpected events that happen in the film. Although some tracks may have been reused, the viewer does not get aware of that as many others are introduced as minutes go by.
In addition to this, the plot in the film is much more sentimental as all the climax that has been building in the 13 24 minute episodes from the 2018 anime are summed up in a film which duration is of an hour and a half. Everyone knows that some films do prefer to go for the "plot twist" events rather than some others that go for an expected ending but shocking at the same time. This one goes for the first one and unless you are heavily spoiled everyone watching is sure to start crying immediately after.
Last but not least, seiyuus must be remarked as they did hell of a job. Not only Inori displaying quite a hard character as Shouko but also Asami as Mei throughout both the anime and the film. It is worth mentioning that if the seiyuu of Shouko had been different and in the worse of cases, played not accordingly then the film itself would have been ruined. Luckily for everyone, it wasn't like that and we were able to watch an amazing Inori at the job
In my personal opinion, I find this type of shows really nice to watch though I do cry a lot mostly and even if I had the less sensitive heart and would not have dropped a single tear I would have liked this show anyways. From the character development in the 2018 anime to the climax drama moment in the film, it was a tremendous ride. But as all rides start, they come to an end. Hence, it was worth my time and will be looking forward to how the series moves from now on.
All in all, do you enjoy romantic dramas? Then this is for you. By watching this you will get an assured character development, conflict and laughs without mentioning the OST and animation themselves. Definitely worth a shot if you got spare time since you will definitely not regret this decision.
What are you waiting for? Go fetch a pillow and enjoy the film!
