Damies short reviews: Tamen De Gushi
Tamen De Gushi is a rather light-hearted (most of the time, there are also more deeper moments) slice of life, shoujo ai story where each chapter only exist out of a couple panels, making it a rather short read. A couple of it's themes are LGBTQ+, comedy, slice of life, high school, basketball, first love. Upon writing this review there are 201 chapter. It depicts for the majority the highschool life of a couple of teens, of which Sun Jing one of the main characters has a crush on a girl, Qiu Tong, which she cannot even ask the name off at first.
Even though the chapters are, well extremely short, only existing out of a couple panels (generally about 10 panels, often somewhere in the range of 5-20 panels). It manages to convey the feelings that come with being in high school, which isn't that easy of a task always especially using this limited amount of panels. You'll see the silly bantering with your friends, having a crush you don't know what to do with, feeling insecure, .... Which makes it rather relatable and more likeable in a way. Especially seeing the romance slowly unfold slowly between Sun Jing and Qiu Tong. The characters are on top also very likable in the way they behave, their personality, their back story, their growth, .... . I especially enjoyed the banter between the main character and her best friend and how she deals with her crush on Qui Tong, slowly managing to showing more and more of her feelings.
The artist has in my opinion a pretty unique art style, only sharing a similar art style with one other artist (that belong to the same creative group actually !). At least I have yet to find any other artist with a similar style, beside the artist he actually regularly works together with. However I will admit the art style might not be for everyone. In addition it has a very soft colour pallet which I quite enjoy. Next to that there's sometimes also single pieces artwork which look great as well, some even depicting further in to the future then the current storyline.
I personally really enjoy this webtoon a lot, especially because shoujo ai/yuri is already a more rare genre anyway. You don't have to think too much, you can just enjoy, spend only a couple second/minutes per day out of your life per chapter which generally just gives you a smile on your face. Although sometimes there are more deeper, thoughtull moments that might even make you a little sad. I would definitely recommend giving it a go, especially because the chapters are so short and you will just fly through them in no time. It probably should take you a maximum of 6-8 hours with the current amount of 201 chapters.
