Sexy character designs. Sexy storyboards. Sexy animation, you get the picture.
▶ Video > Hopefully while watching you feel it too, because every frame looks amazing.Perhaps a better word to use would be cool. Effortlessly cool. Burn the Witch sucks you in with the playful banter of the protagonists Noel and Ninny in a way I don't often see in anime.
Their interactions are generally in the form of exposition, but it's entertaining to watch since their personalities shine through in the details they or don't focus on. The two have a lot of chemistry together.
Even little things like Ninny complaining about BBC announcing on their behalf is endearing. Or Noel's threat to drop Balgo to his death for being dangerously horny.
▶ VideoThe quality of the visuals is quite obvious but the fact that is has dialogue that can keep up with it's pace makes BTW a blast to watch.
The pacing is immaculate and no particular scene ever feels like it drags on for too long. The series even demonstrates some amazing comedic timing in the form of the introduction to the members of Wing Bind HQ. Panning back and forth to reveal a totally uninterested council (with one of it's members missing).
People talk about being able to feel the love radiating off the screen and I definitely think that's the case here.
▶ VideoIt's a very cinematic experience, which is one of the reasons I'm actually relieved this was made as an ONA as opposed to a full length TV series. The likelihood this sort of quality and creativity could be stretched for 12 episodes is quite unlikely.
The final battle is absolutely gorgeous. A lot anime fall short by having action scenes that amount to a bunch of moving noise. Here I feel like I'm watching something entirely new that I haven't seen before with the weight to back it up.
▶ VideoEach layout is chosen perfectly to match the tempo and intensity of the action.
I'm unfamiliar with Kube's work, so going into this I imagined I'd come out feeling the same way that I did about Blackfox.
A middle of the road experience that ceases to be entertaining when the swords stop swinging.
This series set my expectations aflame. Despite it's short length it left of a lot of impact on me and I adore the characters (especially Noel)
In fact you could say Burn the Witch is magic is a lot like a magic show in the most flattering of ways. I didn't really care about the story but with character's this fun do I really need to?
