Where do I even start with this half-baked idea of a romance story? I suppose with some of the items that I enjoyed? Sure, we can start there. Of everything I enjoyed the artwork. That's really the only redeeming quality of this particular story. The artist behind it did a wonderful job both with the line work, and with the coloring. It was also nice to have the speech bubbles clearly defined for who was speaking, regardless of where they were placed in the segments. Sometimes that's not the case with a read, and it can make it difficult to follow the story because of it.
Story wise... eh. Ehhhhhhh.... It wasn't great. This certainly is not the worst thing I've ever read, but it's definitely nothing I'd recommend anyone goes out of their way to read either. My only reason for actually reading through the entire thing (in an evening) is because I was sick and needed a distraction. If it weren't for that I probably would have just dropped it and moved one.
This had a lot of potential. In the beginning we have our Main Couple A, who are presumably the two main characters of the story (but we'll later find out they're not alone), and they have something of a connected past. What that is we don't know entirely (and don't get your hopes up, because it never really goes into any great detail... a common theme). Better yet is there is some crime-based mystery hinted at surrounding them that they are not aware of. So that's a really cool premise, and when done well it's a lot of fun to read. This absolutely was not done well.
In addition to Main Couple A, we get Additional Couple B, and Why Do We Care Couple C. This series was trying to emulate a popular thing done in yaoi and BL manga I've read where you follow the Main Couple A for the bulk of the story, but then you also branch off to follow two other couples as well who are around the Main Couple A. It only sort-of works in those novels, and it absolutely was not a great idea in this one. In this reader's opinion all it did was distract the writer from the overall plot, and instead of adding interest to the story it instead took away from the story details in general.
Should you be looking for character development, don't. There is none. You're going to see characters go from hate to love faster than you can count to three, and relationships are going to develop out of nowhere. The plot development is similar, as are character growth moments. It's just bad. This whole story is very loosely held together with a single piece of string, and it really doesn't give a satisfying feeling from reading it.
It's very clear that the author had a fantastic idea in mind, but they definitely did not impart that idea well onto paper, and even less so into drawn format. The pace needed to slow down, the plot needed to focus on just one couple (or double in length to focus on more), and we needed more to really be invested in it. As it was we almost lost half of the couple for Main Couple A, and I didn't even care. The writer does not give the reader any emotional investment what-so-ever in these characters because the writing is so flat.
So yes, if you're just looking for a quick read of something to pass the time and not get invested in, go for it. If you actually want a decent plot, character growth, and compelling story-telling, go elsewhere.
