Tonikawa is a great series following the married life of newly weds, Tsukasa and Nasa Yuzaki. It has all of the cute quirks that you look for in any romance, romantic comedy, and slice of life animes, without the incredibly overbearing miscommunications and cringy denseness from typical main characters. From an anime only perspective (only started the manga after finishing), some have said they find it mundane at times as there isn't a complex plot that they are pushing toward. Each episode is just another day in the life of the couple. However, that is what makes it enjoyable in my own opinion. Each episode follows its own course and development of a young, albeit genuine, relationship and marriage, with subtle hints toward the origins and backstory of the mysterious Tsukasa. It has that simple, "beauty in the small details" vibes. If you want something that will put a smile on your face and easy to watch, this is definitely a recommendation.
The side characters are pretty solid, I would not say they are incredibly boring but I also would not say that they are a top tier supporting cast. Just solid characters; they aren't bad at all. I am quite entertained by Kaname and her interactions with Nasa. Meanwhile her sister, Aya, has a ditzy personality, but can be a bit bland. Im glad she has some aspect for her character to focus on I guess. All the supporting cast spend a great deal of time noisily intervening in Nasa and Tsukasa's relationship, whether good or bad, especially Chitose (family/friend of Tsukasa) and her two maids. There is an amusing dynamic between Chitose's shenanigans and her maids' dialogues.
Overall, I am excited for the OVA coming out this year and am hoping for a season 2 in the near future! Definitely one of my favorite romance animes!
ANILIST SUMMARY:
"The story follows a protagonist whose name is written with the characters for "Hoshizora" ("Starry Sky" in Japanese), but whose name is pronounced as "Nasa". On the day of his high school entrance exams, Nasa encounters a beautiful girl named Tsukasa. For Nasa, it feels like destiny is finally calling out to him that he will have a girlfriend, but things take a turn for the worse when Nasa is hit by a car and unable to attend his entrance exams.
After Tsukasa helps the injured Nasa, he confesses his feelings to her, and she agrees to go out with him, but only if Nasa agrees to marry her first. A year later Nasa aces the entrance exams, but he decides to work a part time job and live by himself instead of going to school. After Nasa turns 18, Tsukasa re-appears, and their happy, romantic, and mysterious married life together begins."
